Did you marry into a board game family?

No but my husband did

Family is in town now and we are playing 5 or so board games a day. We love them.

It feels like a lot of old family dynamics really get amplified around the Monopoloy board while waiting for the turkey to cook on thanksgiving.

Monopoly is a terrible, boring game, and if that’s what your family plays, you need to go to Target and find some better games

This. We own around 45-50 games and no Monopoly in our house.

Scrabble and Bananagrams are the best two games in the world! I can’t wait for the board game season to begin!

We both come from card game families and to a lesser extent board games but we both love them. I wouldn’t want to be in a family that didn’t like games, personally.

It is not my go to but Monopoly is a perfectly fine game when you adhere to the directions. It is meant to be ruthless and all the pity-based house rules are what drag it out.

We play games at family events. I haaaatteee games so I usually clean or play with the little kids.

I love board games and playing as a family. Also card games. Kids are at an age where they don't often want to play, but will do it over the holidays. DS's fiance likes board games, so looking forward to a DIL to force DS into it, ha.

I could have written this. They’ve either mellowed or I got used to it.

I married into a board game family and I'm here right now on DCUM to avoid it ("doing a little work")

For me, it's that there is always a NEW board game. So I'm always having to learn the rules, and that part is the part I don't like.

Like another PP, I also gravitate toward doing dishes.

I wish I did. Sounds like fun! Prefer it over in-laws getting drunk at all family gatherings.

My family loved board games, except my brother.
My ILs love board games, except my husband and our oldest son.
The usual dynamic is the ones that love board games play board games, the ones that don’t chat and drink.
Honestly I can’t stand the get togethers with my ILs and board games are the only thing that makes it tolerable.
Otherwise I have to listen about his mother’s cousin’s next door neighbors son or some other stupid story about random people I never met and will never meet.

My husband married into one. He joins for 1 or 2 short games and then begs off to do his own thing, which we’re fine with. Some of the funniest memories we collectively have are from board game moments so he sees/understands why we love them.

Going to his family gatherings is SO BORING. Endless cooking, too much wine, and lame small talk. I wish they played games but no such luck.

Board game family was a red flag forme back when I was dating.

I hate board games (bored games, IMO), but my husband and his family love them. Our kids love them now, too. I’ll usually sit at the table with my phone at hand or do some in close vicinity so I can still be social but also free to come and go as I please.
