Did you marry into a board game family?

I am so jealous. I’d trade because I married into cable news family.

I’d suggest you just go do something else while they play.

I will play a few rounds of Dominoes. I will work on a puzzle for a bit.

With my small children, I’ll play a full game if they ask me to, but only if there are no other willing adults around. I hate playing anything with my ILs, who take no shortcuts and belabor every game with frequent references to the rules, etc. Who cares. Get it over with.

Incredibly evil. Monopoly isn’t boring, and is over in 30 minutes, if people play by the rules and don’t put jackpots in Free Parking.

It feels like a lot of old family dynamics really get amplified around the Monopoloy board while waiting for the turkey to cook on thanksgiving.

Monopoly is a terrible, boring game, and if that’s what your family plays, you need to go to Target and find some better games

This. We own around 45-50 games and no Monopoly in our house.

It is not my go to but Monopoly is a perfectly fine game when you adhere to the directions. It is meant to be ruthless and all the pity-based house rules are what drag it out.

It's a brain dead game. It's mostly luck. So stupid.

DH is from a card game family and married into my board game and puzzle family. I would argue that board games invite players of all skill levels, but cards can be daunting when there are highly skilled players.

+1 I wish I had!

Beats silence and awkward conversations or ambient TV.

Love good board games, hate Monopoly

We’re a board game/card game family and thankfully DH prefers it over his chit chat family.

Mainly Pictionary; it’s the best!

My spouse’s family does charades at the holiday fathers; yuck!

We do card games on vacations with friend; spoons, liars dice, poker.

And when we lived in Dallas my friends had Mahjong every other Friday w wine!

Our kids have done all the classic board games whilst growing up; the ne loved Yahtzee

I’d prefer a chit chat family, a sports game family, or a board game/card family.

Instead we’re at the in-laws right now and every night when the sun goes down, FIL turns a movie on. And then another. Then goes to bed at 9:30pm.

Tv shows 5-9pm every day for a week sux. Even the kids are bored for the second one.

I love board games.

I can’t stand playing with people who:
-are so competitive that they actively attack you during a game (as in play offensively during game play, go after you)
-don’t give it their attention. Try to multitask and by the time it gets to their turn, they’re still on their phone. What’s so important there??

My family plays trivia games.

Spouse's family plays all kinds of board games. I like some.

I dislike monopoly and 100% don't understand the person who said it took 30 minutes. It takes 2 hours minimum!

I like silly team games like Taboo and the one where you guess the name on your head. I like any and every kind of word game.

I grew up in a board game family; DH did not. Wish I could switch places with you.

We play rummikub. It’s fun.

My in-laws do scrabble, bananagrams and everything else and it’s awful. These are super smart, highly educated wealthy women who don’t work and waaaaay too much pride is riding on these games! Plus nobody can really drink, since we must keep our wits about us for after dinner warfare. Too stressful.

Yea but the worst part of they are so competitive together. I hate that. I like board games but not when people get super competitive playing them.

I will play certain games with them or play only one round and sometimes say I would prefer to read or take a walk.
