Do the MD clubs even have open tryouts after 8th grade? |
Yes. Except for Hero’s. Theirs is invite only after 8th grade |
The coaches certainly are. |
Any player who could make a top MD will almost certainly play Capital. No one is leaving for a MD team. |
Having been through this, you want to be in the Maryland pipeline before ninth grade. Ideally around 7th grade. It's a small world and everyone know who the good players are. If you're not already playing for an M&D or Hero's in middle school, it's tough to make those teams in ninth grade. Your best bet at that point is Capital. |
Where can I find links to the videos? |
Only their parents. Tournaments only really provide film for HS age. |
This conversation started because someone asked if MD clubs took players mid year, so someone is considering it. |
You have to be a member of that team, unless a parent is putting them on YouTube. |
I think the best advice you've received here is to email the coach as this is handled case by case. It's tough if the player isn't known to the coach (and agree w/others, if you played them, most can pull up a game on VEO). But some teams have space, maybe they kept fewer at tryouts or they have injured players, so if a player is good and meets a certain need you might get lucky. And as noted, in the case of someone who is known to be an elite player, I think the answer is almost always going to be 'yes' because coaches won't want to miss the opportunity to take the player/risk them going to the competition. |
If you search for your team on YouTube you may find a parent who’s pasted video. Coppermine (I think) has at least one parent who posts videos of their games routinely. |
New rankings out. Eagle Stix now no 1. |
No real surprises. Top 5 makes sense. YJ makes a jump. They must have gotten some new talent. Mass Elite made a big jump too. Pride had a good fall and it showed in the rankings bumping them into the top 15. |
YJ's top LI team always seems to get better in 8th grade and into High School. Both YJ Maget and Mass Elite had 1 goal losses against the top 2. Will be interesting to see if that performance holds in the Spring. On the local teams results, agree re Pride. Stars also improved by 8 spots, and has a good shot to settle higher next year, as some teams they beat or played close are ranked 10 spots ahead. Two losses to MD United West hurt them in the rankings. |
A Coppermine player just moved to M&D after the fall season. Not sure if this is what they were referring to but obviously she was known to the coaches. |
