Stop knocking on peoples' doors

Well that makes perfect sense.

Do you not believe in God, or do you know for certain there is no God?

I thought atheists didn’t believe in God personally? I didn’t think they decided there was no God and everyone who believed in God was wrong.

atheism is a disbelief or lack of belief in the existence of God or gods.

that is different than declaring there is no God or gods.

Or is it not?

Explain?

Atheism is one thing: A lack of belief in gods.

Atheism is not an affirmative belief that there is no god nor does it answer any other question about what a person believes. It is simply a rejection of the assertion that there are gods. Atheism is too often defined incorrectly as a belief system. To be clear: Atheism is not a disbelief in gods or a denial of gods; it is a lack of belief in gods.

So this is copied from the American Atheist webpage. You are stating that you are declaring there is no God or gods.

Are you an atheist or something else?

I didn’t think that atheists thought that their lack of belief in a God or gods was what everyone was supposed to believe.

Yeah, that’s why I don’t buy the posts about rude religious people coming to the two pp’s houses.

People who go door to door for their religion are painfully polite and willing to jump through hoops to show you the very best of themselves as they are representing their religion and beliefs.

We had JWs show up alot for a long period of time and they were eager to talk but never rude or intrusive.

The rare times I've had religious groups knock on my door, they were wonderfully polite. They never banged down my door, and never asked to be allowed in. They invited me to peruse their literature, and if I were so moved, to join their group. I thanked them, and they left.

I think you might have communicated the wrong idea when they could see you wave to them. As in "Hello, I'll be with you in just a moment", instead of "Get off my lawn!". So naturally they thought they should stay, and you thought they had outstayed their welcome.

But I agree with others that this story seems a little hard to believe.

How nice for you. I had two refuse to leave. One guy stuck his foot in the way when I tried to close the door.

If these people thought OP meant "I'll be with you in a minute" why did they keep knocking ?

What was the denomination of the religious group that refused to leave and the guy stuck his foot in the door from?

Mormon. Same visit.

Don’t believe you.

OK. And...? That doesn't mean it didn't happen.

And it doesn’t mean it did happen.

Mormons aren’t built like that and everyone here knows it.

Oh... OK. I guess if DCUM knows it that's what matters!

Read my follow up post. They were removed from door knocking duties. Their church elders did not take kindly to their approach. And some are only nicey nice until they draw you in. Do you know nothing of the abuse that goes on among their believers? They certainly are "built like that".

Move on. Nobody thinks Mormons put their foot in your door.

NP. I believe her.

In my hometown, a couple of Mormon missionaries were knocking on the wrong doors at the wrong time, witnessed a crime, and were then shot dead so they couldn't identify the criminals.

It's not without risks.

Well it takes 30 seconds of your time to say you’re not interested. Or check your phone for your ring/nest camera to see if it’s solicitors of any type, and then just don’t answer—that’s what I do.

Nobody said you can’t dislike it. And nobody you can’t talk about your atheism—you just made that up.

But spending your entire afternoon and evening on DCUM complaining and making stuff up… well some of us think that’s a little sad….

Nothings made up and you know it. You’re one of the ones that complains every time someone questions and nonsensical evidence free belief. just check the supernatural experience thread you’ll see it. I’m pretty much every other one too

What possible relevance could your question have to the point you are responding to?

For the record, most atheists are also agnostic, but many will get stronger depending on the definition of the god in question.

Now can we get back to the topic of the thread, which is why it is OK for people to come onto personal property and interrupt someone's life to preach?

Oh look, someone (me) challenges your day of whining and somebody else challenged your made-up stories, and you respond with… ad hominems, gibberish and non sequiturs. Good job?

Why did you open the door?

Because at that time people actually opened the door when someone knocked? But Ok, it was my fault for opening the door.

I called their church and complained. They were taken off of door knocking (a serious punishment for them) and our address was put on their "do not disturb" list.

How long ago was this? Do you still open the door for any random person who knocks?

Lesson learned.

I'm sure you're capable of figuring out what you can do with your opinion. Even religious people can be @$$$$$$.

And you with yours.

Just don’t answer the door.

Oh you're back. I thought you were staying off of this forum. You've said that more than once.

This. With so many solicitors of all stripes (and why isn't OP complaining about them), who answers the door these days unless you're expecting someone?

It's weird OP spent an entire day complaining about something she could have solved with a shrug.

What "made up stories"? And I did not use a single ad hominem. All of your post is obviously false to anyone reading. Adio mio...

What makes you think they aren't? And in many towns (like mine) solicitors are illegal, but the preachers are constitutionally exempt. (no one disputes this is their right, just that it is extremely rude).

Pretty much every normal human being I know.
