Trading up from rehoboth beach summer house

Due to life changes we can now both take off the entire summer. We still love rehoboth and we have a house in almost as good a location as one can get (not oceanfront). However, in light of our ability to now be entirely off during the summer I’m wondering if we shouldn’t consider selling our rehoboth house and buying in a different locale.

Our current house would likely sell in the $3M range and we could add cash to that (say another million or maybe two).

Is there somewhere else that we should consider to buy? No geographic limitations.

Are you in Henlopen Acres or North Shores? I wouldn't sell.

My preference would be coastal Maine - on the water where I could kayak.

There is pretty fantastic kayaking in Rehoboth/Sussex County, between the canal and inlets, the marshes, Bay and ocean.

+1 Lots of great hiking, kayaking, bike trails, and camping not far from Rehoboth. We use our RB beach house as a base for camping trips.

The Delaware beaches are not pretty. Their virtue is proximity.

If you can go away for the whole summer, the dynamics absolutely change. Why not go somewhere truly lovely or with a special kind of summer experience. While CC is unquestionably overbuilt and crowded these days, it still has many lovely pockets and charming feel and variety between ocean, bay and ponds, which is why people still flock there for summers over Delaware.

Totally agree. I’m from the south coast of MA near the Cape and go to Delaware with DH’s family now. My kids go to camp on the Cape and even they much prefer it to the DE beaches. Maine is really lovely, but the Cape gets you the tourist scene like Rehoboth.

I also really like the idea of Michigan. Or renting a villa in a different international location for half the summer each year. If I had OP’s budget, no way would I choose to stay in DC for months.

True, but proximity is a huge factor when you want to go for the weekend or even just one night. Most people don't go somewhere for 3 months straight without ever returning home. Plus lots of beach towns don't have as much walkable stuff as Rehoboth. The prettiest beaches are going to be in Florida or another country. I need more than just sitting on the beach though. YMMV.

Op here. Neither. Ocean block downtown.
