The Delaware beaches are not pretty. Their virtue is proximity.

If you can go away for the whole summer, the dynamics absolutely change. Why not go somewhere truly lovely or with a special kind of summer experience. While CC is unquestionably overbuilt and crowded these days, it still has many lovely pockets and charming feel and variety between ocean, bay and ponds, which is why people still flock there for summers over Delaware.

Totally agree. I’m from the south coast of MA near the Cape and go to Delaware with DH’s family now. My kids go to camp on the Cape and even they much prefer it to the DE beaches. Maine is really lovely, but the Cape gets you the tourist scene like Rehoboth.

I also really like the idea of Michigan. Or renting a villa in a different international location for half the summer each year. If I had OP’s budget, no way would I choose to stay in DC for months. [/quote]
