Have you ever traveled somewhere and absolutely fell in love with the place?

I have been to a LOT of places in the world and nowhere has ever just clicked so easily with my soul. I honestly feel like I'm homesick for Norway now that I'm back in the US which I've never felt before. The people, the nature, the culture, the parenting- everything just resonated with us.

This is so funny - I read the title of your thread and was just coming here to say the same thing. Norway is my "place," in every way.

Another vote for Norway! Spent several days in Bergen and Gudvangen this summer since my husband was interested and I was agnostic. FELL IN LOVE and can't wait to return to see more!

Op here- I HIGHLY recommend going to Aurland (just outside of the super touristy Flam). It literally looks pretend.

Ireland has my heart and made a lasting impression. Charming, walkable towns amidst breathtaking scenery and good hearted locals. The food has also improved dramatically since the early 2000s.

Regretted that decision for many years, but have realized both that the property taxes would have been a killer and I can’t handle the ever-increasing heat or the ways the city has changed. Would have been a glorious decade+ though.

+1. It was a very special place in the early & mid 2000s. Nashville, TN had the same vibe for many years and then lost it as well but the years of 2009-2015 will always hold a special place in my heart.

I feel this way about thailand. DH and I went for 3 weeks for our honeymoon and travelled around. I fell in love so hard! The food, the people, the beauty were all so amazing. My mom and her husband are travelling there in a few weeks and I'm so excited (and jealous!) for them. I really hope they love it as much as I did.

Yup. Mine is Thailand. I lived there for six years and plan to go back!

6 years! How did you manage that?

I want to look at retiring there... the $$ goes so far.

My guess is they were an English teacher. This is not an uncommon story especially where Thailand and the Philippines are concerned.

Nope not an English teacher at all. Guess again.

But yes I had a job based there...like many people who become expats.

There you are! It wouldn't be DCUM without the resident race-baiter.

When I was 18 I was on a whirlwind trip through Europe and we spent two days in Istanbul. I felt like I had lived there before. Not just that I loved it but like I knew it and felt deeply connected, viscerally, as if I had already seen it it in a dream and was recognizing it. I am a Jewish girl from Southern California so it’s really bizarre. I need to go back and see if I feel that way now.
