I Support Adrian Fenty For DC Mayor Because

You are holding to stereotypical gender roles and claiming to be a feminist? You say this is what you were taught but can't point to anything that supports it? You can hold whacky, wrong ideas all you want. And you can misrepresent yourself all you want. But you are not a feminist and you are lying to yourself if you think you are. I'm glad you feel liberated. It's just a shame that it came at the expense of the ideals and principals you CLAIM to hold.

I stand by my crackpot claim and I am ceasing to engage with you. Seeing how you've handled yourself in this conversation and others makes it clear you have a warped view of the world and an inability to consider perspectives outside your own.

And, while I categorically deny that I am holding on to stereotypical gender roles (actually you are the one insisting on doing that), let's be clear: no one "taught me" how to use language and when. I figured out how I like to express myself over time, with my friends, most of whom are also feminists. I don't need to be "taught" how to speak. I am not a grade-schooler. That is where I learned how to speak. As an adult, I decide how I wish to express myself with words. Get it? I decide. No one teaches me.

Why don't you point to some authority that says, unequivocally, that no one can consider themselves a feminist if they engage in this kind of word play? I dare you. I double dare you. You'll find nothing.

And learn the difference between "principle" and "principal". I don't normally make fun of spelling mistakes and typos, but you've made this particular error many times, and I want to spare a fellow feminist further embarrassment.

Wow. Overreact much? I'm not even sure you are paying attention to the conversation we are having (or the one I am trying to have and the one you are failing to adequately participate in). It seems you just want to rant about what you want to rant about and pretend everything else didn't really happen. Enjoy la-la land. I'm sure you are much happier there than you'd ever be in the real world. Must be a sad, sad life you lead...

So, to put it all together, here is the actual quote of what Gray said (you had to actually be there to hear the sarcasm in his voice):

I know you all are concerned about your home values, and your childrens' education. And I'm not saying I'm against any of that. I'm not saying that I'm going to take away from any of that. But there are other Wards that need more help. So don't expect to see anymore of that once I am elected Mayor.

That's what he said. There's no spin there. That's what he said. Now, I read that as divisive. Goose says that's "spin", and would like you to interpret it to mean that, once Gray is elected, DC will become a utopia in which no Wards will be wanting.

To which I say again: Let the words speak for themselves, and the sentences be the best evidence of their contents.

I was also at the Ward 3 Straw Poll -- and Gray never said anything remotely like this. In fact, I was struck by his repeated assertions of a "One City approach", in which he said we need to stop pitting one ward against another.
You may be a Fenty supporter -- but that's no excuse for making up statement about the other guy.

And George W. Bush went to Harvard and Yale.

Mayor Adrian M. Fenty does not deserve a second term. Rather than using his office and good will to bring people together to improve the quality of life for all District residents, Mayor Fenty has further and openly divided this city by race and status.

If under the former Barry administration it was unsettling the District was reported racially divided and it was wrong, why is it ok under a Fenty administration?

Contrary to the efforts by The Washington Post, District public schools have not shown to improve markedly under Mayor Fenty and Chancellor Michelle Rhee. An honest reading of the data shows DCPS was improving BEFORE the governance change and the Government Accountability Office has reported to Congress none of the current academic improvements can be attributed to Mayor Fenty or to Chancellor Rhee.

The people of the District deserve intelligent and competent leadership. Neither Mayor Fenty or Chancellor Rhee measure up.

Specifics? Looks like the quality of life of all District residents *has* been improving for the last two decades. Do you disagree? If so, in what way?

Thanks!

I did not make anything up, and I will not be called a liar. You can say that you didn't hear it; that doesn't change the fact that me and my husband did.

And my, you're making this assertion a bit late in the game, aren't you? I mean, I've been making this assertion for over a month, and no one could refute it, despite repeated requests from others that anyone else who attended the meeting step out and either confirm or deny if this was said. If I really wanted to point to which one of us is more likely to be making something else, I'd probably point to you. But I would never do this. I don't like to assume the worst in people and call them liars.

Yes, but as I'm sure Goose would agree, Bush got to Harvard and Yale based soley because he is a long-term beneficiary of privilege which he did not earn and did not deserve. Specifically, the benefited from his very privileged status, and from his race. Not so with Fenty.

By no means am I calling anyone a liar, but it is hard to take the comment as reported here because I don't know that we are getting the most accurate or objective accounting of it. I have scoured the internet for any other accounts of the quote, ideally video or audio so tone and such can be more accurately assessed, but none seem to exist. Were there reporters or members of the press there?

Again, I am not calling anyone a liar or doubting anyone's intentions. I just prefer to have info from as close to the source as possible. It is also helpful to have context, since we have already seen different ways in which the quote can be interpreted.

I'm a wanna-be feminist because I believe in denouncing misogyny? Is this opposite day?

Just can't let it go, can ya? Wow... a sad little life you must lead that even in discussions with someone else you are still demonstrating your obsession with me because of your obvious inferiority.

You're a wanna be feminist because your understanding of feminism is dogmatic, elementary, and exclusive.

I'm not obsessed with you, Goose. I just see you as my ally in this particular instance. I thought we had made up. I even considered you my friend. Now my dreams are shattered, as you clearly find me to be obsessive and inferior to you.
