Longer name for nn Annie?

+1 OP and her DH are going to be hard pressed to make the case to their kid that Annie is an acceptable nickname for Julianna but Ann is a bridge too far. And a kid who has gone by Annie for 15 years is just as likely to try out "Ann" as "Julia" or "Julianna" when she goes through the trying on different versions of her name phase in high school/college.

Annette
Anissa
Anita?
Evangeline

I have a friend name Anneliese and nobody ever made fun of her name. The kindest person, still is.

Melanie
Stephanie
Delaney/Delanie
Brittany
Bethany
Tiffany

I mean, there are a lot of options above that work well. Just remember that you have other options than just the ones you would think of with "ann," and nicknames don't have to follow super strict rules.

I dislike that idea. I also don't really like the names suggested but really dislike using them with Annie as a nickname.

Agree with this. Julianne or Annelise or whatever called Annie may well shorten her own name to Ann/Anne as she gets older. That would be a natural switch. This is similar to the reason why we did not name our daughter a name we loved but for which I hated the most common nickname. I know I could be clear that it was (this isn't the name but an example) Alexandra and not Lexy, but I had zero control over whether she someday decided on her own to go by Lexy. Of course, I could name my daughter Amelia or Catherine or Larla and she could still go by Lexy, but much less likely.

I know a Hannah who goes by Annie.

For?

DP. Kids will need to be fairly literary to make Anais jokes, but it doesn't take an AP student to get to anal s3x jokes from Annalise.

I grew up with an Annelise and this was never an issue.

And you grew up in a time when 8 yos weren’t exposed to porn on Roblox. A girl with anything looking like Anal in her name is gonna get teased. Just like there’s a reason that nobody is nicknaming their kid Dick (Richard) anymore.

Annie as in orphan Annie? Oof.

I like Julianne. But not Annie.

What is wrong with Lexy? I wouldn’t spell it like that though.

I'm not trying to change your mind but I cannot fathom loving Annie and hating Ann(e). It just does not compute.

Yeah, this is weird.
