Michigan vs. Wisconsin

The people I know who went to Michigan tend to be legacy. And pretentious.

Dumb and wrong.

Don’t like being compared to MSU? It’s not as good? They’re both land grant schools.

Madison is much better than Ann Arbor? How so?

np. lake.

So the lake makes Madison, “ far superior?” That’s it? Not very compelling evidence.

This is a good point. Wisconsin should be compared to Michigan State.

Not a good point. Wisconsin is the sole large public university in the state. Michigan has two.

+1

Makes more sense to compare Wisconsin to a school like Maryland or Illinois. Michigan/Michigan State would be more comparable to UVA/Virginia Tech or Indiana/Purdue.

Or Ohio State, Minnesota, Iowa, Penn State. All land grant schools. !

One thing about Wisconsin grads, they always light up when they talk about it and go on and on about how much they loved the school - in a way I don’t hear about anyplace else. Graduation is like expulsion from the Garden of Eden.

Right. The key is states with a single flagship as opposed to two.

UW alum 15 years out. I've done well in my career and LOVED my time there. A universally beloved undergraduate experience creates a strong and passionate alumni network.

But only one flagship. That's the point. Many states have two.

One of the top party schools in the entire country. They’re lit most of the time. 😁

Lived in Michigan long time. Many Michigan grads think their peer schools are Ivies, Stanford, Northwestern. That’s a big part of their legendary arrogance. Many in-state students at private high schools who could afford to go to college anywhere see no reason to leave the state.

Endowments are a good indicator of student satisfaction. Wisconsin and Michigan are similarly sized institutions. Wisconsin’s endowment is approx. 3.5 billion. Michigan’s endowment is over 17 billion. So you tell me, where are the “passionate” graduates of Wisconsin when it comes to giving back?

Wisco imo has prettier students - I was not expecting that vs Michigan

Michigan students really should be better looking given they are a lot richer than wisco students
