Most overrated international destination?

Madrid. I lived in several parts of Spain, & Madrid is like a synthesis of the worst aspects of all the other parts of spain: crime, sprawl, crappy new architecture, rudeness, American fast food, etc. Lots of great places to visit in Spain. I found that the capital city isn’t one of them.

Ok the beach was a total disappointment nut thats what Bali is “famous” for.
However the rice fields, mountains, sceneries were very beautiful!

Maldives - gorgeous water beach….but cant go in water at the beach, too dangerous - another teaser.

Might as well stick to Caribbean.

can’t go in water in Maldives? tell me more, I’m so curious

Everywhere, Costa Rica

Amsterdam, Netherlands

+1 I was going g to write Costa Rica as well. Baffles me why so many people spend so much money to go there .

You must not have done anything interesting. Costa Rica was a fabulous family trip. We stayed at a hotel with hot springs overlooking the Arenal volcano, we went zip lining 650 feet over the rainforest, we went on an ATV ride, we hiked and saw the most incredible birds, butterflies, snakes, monkeys, flowers, insects, spiders, and frogs. We then stayed in a small 5 star resort about an hour away from the volcano with incredible food, a huge room with an outdoor shower, and an awesome pool. If you wasted your trip going to the beach instead of the rainforest, too bad for you!

I want jungle and beaches.

Wow, Florence? I went in March ten years ago and have been dreaming of returning.

Barcelona, Venice, and Florence are just too overrun with tourists. I actually thought Madrid was fabulous—it seemed like a real city with actual locals and I wasn’t tripping over a tourist every two feet.

I found the people in Madrid and Barcelona and Spain in general to be assholish.

The feeling was likely mutual.

It’s OK. Portugal and the Portuguese are way better anyway. Plus Portuguese food is superior. People finally learned Portugal is better destination.

Portugal is a tourist dump.

Sounds touristy. There are much more authentic rainforest experiences to be had.

Not the case for us when we went. We snorkeled right off the beach on the house reef. Maybe the time of year make it hard or it was specific to the resort? Loved Maldives and would go back in a heartbeat.

I like Rome, but that's a new one on me.
