Share your most overrated international destinations, something you were excited about but didn’t quite live up to expectations. |
Italy |
Cabo- hated that I couldn’t go in the ocean because it’s too dangerous. We stayed by the pool the whole time and no one really went to the beach at our resort.
Amsterdam- turned off by the people and sex industry there. Nice- very disappointing and unattractive compared to surrounding beaches and countryside in the South of France. |
Where did you go? |
Rome and Naples. Total dumps |
2 cities and the whole country is overrated? Wow. Its like saying you love or hate the US based on Florida alone. |
Verona, Italy
Everywhere, Costa Rica Amsterdam, Netherlands |
Another vote for Cabo. Couldn't leave the resort. Can't drink the water or eat fruits or vegetables. |
Bali. |
Munich. It’s so boring and corporate. (I lived there though, probably fun enough for a weekend.)
Venice. I found it gross. |
I have never understood the appeal -- it's such a long flight and there are so many other tropical destinations that are closer. It's just resorts. If I'm flying to that part of the world, I want to actually experience local culture a bit more than that. Just go to Hawaii. |
Was in Amsterdam last month for a few days. Have been many times...always liked it.
This time the city seems much dirtier. Trash everywhere. The train station was horrid. Can't see us going back anytime soon. Sad to see. |
Do people talk about Munich? I always think of it like one of those very staid European capitols focused primarily on boring industry and/or government -- Munich, Brussels, Zurich. I found the latter two better than expected because I expected so little of them, though I've never been to Munich. |
I’ll add The Hague to that list. Not that anyone talks it up as a hot destination, but it’s so damn boring! |
Yeah, people hype up the Biergartens and overall Bavarian experience. Compare to eg Frankfurt which no one has ever hyped up for anything. In contrast to you I managed to be disappointed by Zurich despite my low expectations. Soooooo boring. |
