77 all day but I'll tap the button to bring it down to 75 or 76 when I'm home and feel hot.
Sleep in basement in summer. |
You better not keep your heat set to above 60-65 in the winter. Or are you a hypocrite? |
No, just not cow people. Non-heavily insulated body. |
| My husband 65, me 70 |
| Between 75 and 77, depending on whether we are home. |
Not a hypocrite. Just a concerned regular citizen. |
Have you checked for radon? If you haven't, you need to do that before spending too much time in basement. #2 cause of lung cancer after smoking. |
Adjust the dampers in the furnace room to push more cool air to the top floor in the summer. |
So eloquent! |
| 72 all year round, baby |
I don't think that's it. I'm 5'6 and 110 lbs with a similarly proportioned DH and skinny kids and we all hate the house warmer than about 70. 78 to 79 would be bearable but pretty unpleasant. |
| 73 constant. It’s a bit too cold for us but both my Alaskan malamutes complain if I raise it to 74. |
| 68 year round. Sometimes I feel odd with the same temp all the time. But work doesn’t get done when I’m hot. |
Believe it or not I know what a damper is and we already do that! Unfortunately we have a downdraft system with concrete slabs in the floor that are not the normal size of your typical HVAC ductwork. Therefore this is a LOT of pressure within the system and our system is oversized as it is (thanks HVAC techs! who didnt understand our house and its limitations!- never knew I would learn so much about this as a new homeowner) so closing all of the vents or directing air only towards the top floor can actually wear out the internal components. Especially with the furnace. While we do adjust the damper seasonally, it can be counterproductive in our specific case to close vents and/or throttle completely to the top or bottom. The reason I suggest it is because most people already know about dampers and trying to force the air up top. But for many of us in this area with slab ductwork and/or 3/4 story townhouses that havent been updated to multi-level systems the register vent fans are very helpful. They literally pull the air through the vent so for our house, it aids in circulating the air better and more efficiently. It also allows us to keep the temp a bit higher but thanks to being oversized we cant have it too high or else it doesnt do a great job removing humidity (we also have a dehumidifer running during the summer right below the intake downstairs. So yah.
