What is "smart"? What benchmarks do you use for intelligence? My grandfather had untreated dyslexia growing up, never went to college, became a plumber, built a multimillion dollar plumbing and heating business, invested very well, had a NW of close to $10M and retired in his 50s after having six children and paying for all of them (and their children) to go to college. My grandfather valued education, despite not having a lot of traditional education, and was a great investor and businessman. In contrast, my parents who collectively have two masters and a PhD (and have been working for 45+ years) make a combination of $160K working for state government and a local community college.

you forgot a critical skill required to be a rich plumber - dishonesty, ripping off innocent, ignorant homeowners!

If you cannot do that then, I’m sorry you are dumb.

According to OP I would be risk taker if I buy lottery tickets.

If I lose I'm dumb. If I win I'm smart.

OP, money is fleeting. Dumb is forever.

This is it. They don’t have entrepreneurial spirits.

There are a lot of white collar scammers too. The good hearted people will try to help you and there are few and hard to find people

I care for the environment and in that field you won't get rich. You can get rich by destroying the environment.

Yeah, I think most book smart people lack the risk tolerance necessary to become very rich. Most rich people in the US own or owned a business instead of steadily climbing a well defined path. Lots here would be surprised what a busy HVAC contractor can take home each year (it’s similar to a biglaw partner, but much better lifestyle).

I'm not rich. I'm average smart. I have enough never to work full time again and I haven't since 2007. I didn't want things, I want my time and freedom.

You call going into 160F attic to fix AC "better lifestyle"....really? Its hard, dirty work.....but yes like most blue collar jobs, they can make a good living.

My sister in law is dumb as a brick and her husband lazy.

They are filthy rich as he just did S&P 500 last 40 years. No investment advisor, no rental properties.

As simple as putting $5,000 to $10,000 a month in stocks for 40 years.

I chose instead to be my own boss, work PT & flexible hours, and make enough $$$ to be affluent.

I concluded that the effort needed to move from affluent to very rich wasn't worth the significant extra effort involved.

Had I been smart enough to figure out how to get very rich without additional sacrifice, I would have done so.

But I'm pretty damn happy with how things turned out, even if I am dumb.

End of the day, freedom + some money >>> great money without freedom.

Yeah, it is easy to be rich if you have an extra $500 to $10,000 a month every month for 40 years.

OP seems to be another one of many here who feels that being smart is the only factor in becoming rich. Another similar trope is that hard work is all that is needed. Having met a large number folks in OP's mold, I am sorry OP, you are dumb.

Ted Kaczynski was much smarter than you (no big feat) and most folks, but according to your insipid, juvenile logic, he wasn't rich and hence was dumb.

smart -> rich
therefore:
not rich -> not smart/dumb

Besides butchering logic, your intelligence seems far below par OP. I would urgently seek out the institutions that educated you and demand your money back.
