If you’re so smart why aren’t you rich?

The older I am the more I am learning that only the smart people are the ones who are able to make real money. They are creative, diligent and understand how the world works and how to solve problems and improve their lives.

If you cannot do that then, I’m sorry you are dumb.

Demonstrably false. The qualities you list afterward are not necessarily products of intelligence.

I consider myself to be above average intelligence (whether you think I’m smart is another matter) and am well off, but not rich, by DCUM standards. I’ve made certain conscious choices that have led to a better quality of life for me and my family that don’t translate into financial wealth. That is not what drives me or makes me happy. YMMV.

Let’s see if you’re smart enough to get through this:

It helps to have generational wealth and the connections that come with it...

Because I’m smart enough to understand that our $210k household income is plenty. We live in a house we love, in a neighborhood we love, we have three kids, we both have jobs that are meaningful and (generally) enjoyable for us AND we both work 40 hours a week, max, have a ton of flexibility and get to spend lots of time with our children. More money would mean less time and flexibility and it’s not worth it to us.

You can tell how smart I am because of the parents I picked. That takes real talent!

My brother is much dumber than me and quite rich (in sales). I got rich the smart way (law) and he’s definitely winning.

So the world is not divided into haves and have nots, but also the smart and the stupid?

Does dcum Forum have any other snippets of wisdom to share?

Meh.

Getting rich the smart way is tech, not law.

I am not sure why lawyers think they are very smart.

It takes some money, but it doesn't take "riches" to live a good life.

Intelligence, good judgment, and discipline are not necessarily synonymous. The latter two traits are arguably more important to accumulating wealth than the former.

There are plenty of smart people who don’t care about being rich. The fact that OP doesn’t understand this tells a lot about them.

Wow, you’re getting stupider with age, not wiser.
