A good article and update on what is happening in the trial.

Thank goodness for the data recorder in the BMW. Funny how Shahid's atty is trying to pin the blame on the SUV driver who was stopped in the roadway to yield to the pedestrians. The defense atty asked questions about when the SUV hit the BMW. And the SUV driver said, "I was stationary. I didn't hit anyone. The BMW hit me." (paraphrasing).

That's important. The SUV/4Runner was STATIONARY!. The BMW data recorder shows that he SPED UP from 60 mph to 81 mph. If the BMW driver had been going within 20 mph over the speed limit (which is technically reckless driving on its own), he still would have been able to stop for the SUV that was stopped in the process of turning.

There is no way around it (literally). If you drive SOOOO fast that you cannot stop for anything several blocks away, you are the problem.

I wonder if Shahid is not a citizen, and as a non-citizen, he doesn't want to plead guilty, because he gives up some rights to appeal which may be part of his immigration status strategy?. And also, if he is found guilty, will there be anyway his status (diplomatic status?) would give his country some way to pull him out of the US before he goes to jail? Is his status in the country part of why he has not pled guilty to anything?
