Undocumented citizen please. You don't want to ostracize him.

There was no way for a Good Samaritan to intervene, as there was no hint that the assailant would lash out at the woman.

Those are some sparkling white shoes on the homeless guy

Everything about him looks fresh and clean. I’m guessing the homeless part of this story is from someone with an agenda.

Just stop tolerating violent behavior from anyone and everyone. I don’t care if they’re homeless, rich, a cop, or the president. Hospitalize them, imprison them, whatever.

Neither the far left or the far right wins this argument. Each extreme makes excuses for their chosen exceptions.

+1. I definitely feel like labeling him as homeless is agenda-driven.

He does not look homeless.

Look a his sparkling white shoes.

He is fit. Something missing from this story.

He is mentally ill, that is for sure.

I agree that he looks very tidy for a homeless person. Look at those shoes. But he was located at a homeless shelter after the incident. It does seem strange.

This is such a rich statement. Attempted murder just gets "treatment" and out back out in society. Perfect. Too bad no one pushed him onto the tracks and let the train take care of his treatment.

Yes!!

I assumed the PP was joking.

Honestly I am getting tired of people caring more about the attacker than the people who will have lifelong scars, physical problems and PTSD from an unprovoked attack. We sit here and play semantics with words like homeless vs unhoused, mentally ill to mental health disorder, Substance use disorder instead of drug addict while they are out in society harming people and we just care about using words that wont hurt their feelings. You want to give them help and then they refuse to keep up on meds and back to being a detriment to society. It's exhausting and I am over it.

This is right on the point, and I agree. Society has become so warped and one sided now.

I think American optimism is biting us in the behind. We spend so much time, effort and money believing that each individual possesses the potential for full actualization and redemption to the detriment of the greater whole of society.

+1

Bring back the institutions.

The current Supreme Court will never allow it; too invested in unconstrained personal liberty.

If they just had free housing.

Could just be a bad, violent man who hates women.

Agreed. It's exactly how we got into this mess

We got into this mess when Reagan cut the funding for a lot of public services, including mental health. Not because people care too much. Stop spreading lies.
hey boomer that was 43 years ago. Nothing is stopping putting homeless people in prison accept you

NP. I…don’t even know where to start here.

NP. PP has a point. ACLU and many activists were against involuntary commitment. Many people like to blame Reagan but activists were lobbying for deinstitutionalization well before institutions were defunded. Then the lack of funds and easy access to drugs only accelerated the mental health crisis in this country.

Not strange at all. People love to distribute hot meals and new clothing to the homeless and then virtue signal post about it on Nextdoor. If they really wanted to help they could give money to organizations that work with health professionals and counselors to try to get these people off the streets. Instead you have people who are enablers. That’s why I never give money or goods directly to people. All your $5 does is relieve your guilt and enable that person to remain on the street likely using drugs and possibly harming someone else.
