Why does this parasocial stuff happen primarily with singers e.g. BTS, Taylor Swift, Harry Styles and back in the day David Cassidy, the Beatles etc. It doesn't seem to happen as much with good-looking actors, nor with less attractive musicians. Does singing do something to your brain chemicals? |
Honestly, the best songs on the albums are rarely the ones released as singles. Not everyone needs to love every type of music, but I think the people who only hear the singles on the radio are missing out on some of her best stuff. |
I think it's actually ALL this. Yes, she has a magnificent marketing machine. Her particular genius is that the 13-year-olds ARE relating. Her love songs are simple and universal enough that a 13-year-old thinks it's EXACTLY like when they had that two-week relationship in 6th grade and now he's with some other girl. And she just works so hard. Seeing footage from the concerts that took place in the rain ... she just never stops, and she manages to make it look like a great party. I'm kind of mid-level fan, but I really admire her work ethic. AND ... she's evolved so much, hopefully with no end in sight. I was never one to think of artists album by album, but I kind of do with her, because the themes are so clear and the musicianship seems to get better with each one. |

Her discography for a 33yo is incredible.
She can write, sing, play instruments, and perform for hours. Her lyrics and performance show growth as a musician and person. She is a very hard worker. She was a perceived underdog in the years long drama with Kanye/Kim but came out on top and made a ton of money from it. Her talent as a songwriter is overlooked because she is a woman but I think many people's eye were opened after Ryan Adams covered her 1989 album (mine included). |
| ^ I say this as a 47yo |
I came here to see the exact same thing! Most of her best music isn’t even released on radio because it’s not “pop” enough. It’s soulful, more of a folk feel, passionate, thoughtful. Her song Marjorie about her grandmother is so beautiful. |
|
And the thing about performing in the rain for 3 1/2 hours, not only does that suck but
her fingers were literally pruning! She was having to play guitar with pruny fingers, brutal |
The Easter eggs? Please explain that one. |
Don’t all musicians perform for hours? And it used to be that musicians being able to write, sing and play an instrument was the norm. |
|
I think this is a white Millennial thing. I'm half white, but my non-white side does not get the Taylor Swift obsession, at all. She's alright, but mostly unremarkable to me.
|
Many do not do all 3, especially write. She also writes for others. Her current tour is 3 hours. No that is not the norm. |

| I think a large portion of Taylor swift fans are millennials but most millennials wouldn’t describe themselves Taylor Swift fans. |
I am gen x and I like her! |
Ok now we know your opinion is wack |
