Do all millennials like Taylor Swift?

As a Gen Xer I’ve always been baffled by the popularity of Taylor Swift. Her songs - and voice are just so incredibly bland. It’s like the elevator music of pop. Are there millennials who are mystified by her success as well, or is this just a generational thing?

Well, I get it from a business standpoint— I do see how hard she works and also how intelligently she markets herself. I admire her as a business woman. But her music all sounds the same to me, and all very “safe” and generic in terms of subject matter.

She has had a few catchy hits, but that doesn’t explain the extreme devotion of her fans to me.

My millennial sons aren't interested at all.

My sons are young 20’s they like her along with a lot of other music

How is she a marketing genius? I always hear it so I believe it's true, but I don't pay any attention to her, so I don't get what it is that she is marketing about herself that is so appealing.

She is amazing at developing a relationship with her fans and making them feel special, and making them feel their connection to her is special. She also does an amazing job at performing vulnerability, to make the people who listen to her music feel like they are seeing her real self, while also always maintaining actual privacy and distance.

Her fans often feel like they relate to her or are like her, but it’s by design— her music is written to evoke this feeling, specifically.

She understands her fans extremely well and knows how to give them what they want.

I'm an older millenial, and I also don't get the Taylor Swift craze. She's pretty and has a couple of catchy songs, but her voice isn't great, and the majority of her music is not good.

I also think the Beatles are horrible, so there's that.

Then you must not understand her style of marketing. In addition to selling out every show and having 20,000+ fans just listening outside the stadiums in parking lots, people are driving over an hour just to buy merch in the parking lot! She’s clearly doing something right. Her entire business is playing to her fans, dropping Easter eggs, keeping her fans waiting on her every move. She starts dating matty from 1975 and now his song is played all over us radio raising in the charts when it wasn’t before. He was playing guitar with one of the opening acts. People are sort of cheering for the rest of the band. Anytime they showed him fans would would lose their mind. And in and in. You may not like her but to say she doesn’t understand Marketing is pretty silly.

It was never about her being pretty. People connect to her music. You don’t that’s fine.
