Do all millennials like Taylor Swift?

Anonymous
I can't call myself a Swiftie because I don't know all the back stories or follow her that closely.

But I will say that the 3 albums she put out in 2020/21 were incredible. Lover, Folklore, Evermore are top notch. The last 2 albums especially are so soulful and the lyrics are pure poetry. If you don't listen to a single other Taylor Swift album, I would listen to those.

I think that or being a foodie pretty much covers all millennials

She appeals to across the board. All ages.

I'm with you OP...I don't get it. My teens say she's fine but very "basic." She just seems to lack any edge.

Her words cut like a knife. Not sure how you can say she has no edge lol. She’s all about the lyrics.

Gen X here. I like her songs and will sing along on the radio but I have never bought her CDs or concert tickets.

I think there’s a segment of fans who like her music, and that’s fine. Then there’s this segment that has an extreme parasocial relationship with her— which seems weird, but is something many fans of things do. I remember there was this group of middle-aged fans of the tv show “Outlander” that harassed the main actors to death because they were convinced that they were hiding a real life relationship. Point being, this is human behavior, not teen or Gen Z behavior.

Psst- it’s called streaming music, not buying CDs.

How is she a marketing genius? I always hear it so I believe it's true, but I don't pay any attention to her, so I don't get what it is that she is marketing about herself that is so appealing.

Then you must not understand her style of marketing. In addition to selling out every show and having 20,000+ fans just listening outside the stadiums in parking lots, people are driving over an hour just to buy merch in the parking lot! She’s clearly doing something right. Her entire business is playing to her fans, dropping Easter eggs, keeping her fans waiting on her every move. She starts dating matty from 1975 and now his song is played all over us radio raising in the charts when it wasn’t before. He was playing guitar with one of the opening acts. People are sort of cheering for the rest of the band. Anytime they showed him fans would would lose their mind. And in and in. You may not like her but to say she doesn’t understand Marketing is pretty silly.

The pp you’re quoting never said she doesn’t understand marketing. They quite literally said, “I keep hearing it so I believe it’s true” and was asking what the marketing she’s doing is bc they don’t follow her enough to know.

Gen X here and I 💯 agree with OP.

You do realize Swift actually sold albums as CDs way back when before streaming was a thing? That’s what I’m referring to. I never purchased any of her earlier albums on CDs. You’re obviously not Gen X. Our generation bought CDs and will continue to.

Music is bland, but she writes her own music and plays an instrument. Most millennial musicians do neither. Battles, pick your.
