For RCF we were told 40-45 and that in some years they don't go as deep but in others they may. It revolves around siblings, etc.

We just accepted RCF and opened up a spot on the waitlist for SCES.

Good luck all!

Congratulations@!
What was your SCES spot, please, if you don’t mind?

We were #7 and were invited last Thursday.

What number do you have?

We are trying second time - for 1st grade now, WL single digit. For K we were WL above 60. ((
Trying to be hopeful, but…

I think every year is different and single digits are good! Hope it works for out for you guys.

Yes, but I highly doubt we get in. Our waitlist number is over 20 and I'm guessing that at best they have 3-4 open slots. We'll just try again.

I’m floored that the waitlists for grades 2-5 (with language skills required) are so long. I wrote to ask how long the wait lists were and got a generic answer that there were over 1000 applications, most for K. But that seems like a bit of an understatement if the lists for the upper grades are so substantial.

The slides presented at info meetings said last year, 1163 students applied and 565 of those for a Kindergarten slot. So about half of the applicants seem to be for upper grades.

Huh. Aren’t there ~300 total slots for K? Maybe my luck is worse than I thought! That would suggest possibly more than half of applicants get a spot for K. Actually even more than that when you consider declines and waitlist movement….

It's about 264 spots (24 person classes, 4 classes of french, 5 of Spanish, 2 of Chinese). I wonder if the increase in dual immersion has made the lottery less competitive.

Will be interested to see if they release the number of applicants for this year, maybe there's a post-pandemic increase?

Any intel on waitlist movement for grade 1 and higher? Since numbers seem a bit more mysterious beyond K!

Does MCPS share where they currently are in the wait list for specific schools?

I’m sure they’ll tell you where you are on the list if you contact them.

Is it just me, or is there not as much movement on the immersion waitlists this year? We were told that people with waitlist numbers under 40 usually have a good chance of getting off the waitlist and being offered a spot.

With our good waitlist number, I was expecting that we would definitely have an invitation by now to the immersion school that our other child attends. Apparently there are still several people ahead of our 2nd child (entering K) on the waitlist & now I'm thinking that we won't get in. That means we need to figure out the ins and outs of having our kids at different elementary schools with different start/stop times & before and after care.

Anyone have any insight?
