This is getting ridiculous

High sats are not unique. Grade inflation, test prep, tutoring etc. have made it so parents and kids think they are smarter and more special than they actually are.

The % of really smart kids hasn’t changed in the last 30 years. The number of parents and kids who think they fall into that bucket has increased astronomically.

Which is why class rank + test scores + gpa need to all be considered.

With 3.5 million kids graduating from hs in the US, there are 35k in the top 1%. Add to that tens of thousands more who are international and also in the top 1%. The best known colleges are going to be super competitive.

White UMC means I’m going to blame minorities if I don’t get what I want.

Doesn’t it matter as far as recruiting?

Yes, very demoralizing to kids have worked hard and been high achievers throughout school to see that the key factor in admissions is demographics.

Right there couldn’t possibly be someone as qualified or more qualified than your kid amongst the thousands and thousands that applied. Some dumb black kid or poor Hispanics most certainly took his spot.

Also we aren’t in the midst of one of the largest classes of college applicants ever that’s peaking over the next couple years and then will decrease. Nope it’s definitely “diversity” and someone less qualified took your perfect candidate kid’s spot. It’s also not that half the schools have kids with straight As and tons of activities and awards.

“Diversity” is the new white cope for I didn’t get what I thought I deserved.

Amen!

Ironically as a hiring manager I am being pushed to look beyond T10 and even T30 schools for candidates. I hope these kids aren’t accumulating too much debt and really enjoy their four years …

Riiiight….that’s why the majority of enrolled students at top colleges are white UMC…because they are being “discriminated against”

That could be part of it. It could also be school selection. My son and a couple of his buddies were certain that they will get into t10s. They are all having a truly humbling experience. As somebody on Reddit put it - CS can make your safeties look like reach schools.

Yes, certainly admissions workers would not have understood the technical terms. White males and Asians really need to be strong in a sport nowadays otherwise they get passed over for lower stats of other ethnicities.

It’s SO hard for the white males these days. If you go to a T20 college and walked around you’d think you were on the campus of Howard University. Same with companies and boardrooms, it’s hard to find a rich white male in power these days. Let’s make them a protected class. In fact any white male with straight A’s can get admitted to any college they want to and no minorities will be accepted.

If anyone is running for President here is your platform. Oh wait…..

Racist hiring managers have always been around, some things take longer to change.

When multiple schools return the same decision, you have to wonder if that t was a strong as the OP is saying it was. Or did they aim too high, not realizing that thousands of top students are competing for a few hundred spots?

I am sorry OP. That bites. On the plus side, his future is assured. The kid you describe is going to do great wherever he goes to school.
