This is getting ridiculous

The good news is it doesn’t matter what college you go to for CS. In fact, you kid is probably better off at a less intense school.

There is a shortage of CS professors.

I, like many, have a kid hoping to major in CS. CS is his innate gift and he is truly gifted at it but these schools don’t seem to see that. He is accepted somewhere (definitely not top 50) so he is probably heading there but what on Earth is going on with all these deferrals and waitlists??? Who is getting in to these places?? He is a white male, 1580 SAT, UMC, straight A, multiple AP, highest rigor, multiple award winning, dedicated volunteer hours, write ups in magazines, articles in Wired… What else to they want?

Maybe it’s a blessing in disguise considering that AI is going to completely make a CS degree worthless?

That’s horseshit considering the vast majority at these schools are white, UMC students

Lots of deferrals now since schools are receiving so many applications. Be patient. He is likely to get accepted at a school that deferred him.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

There was a super popular post a few months back where a UMC Asian with perfect stats and incredible awards and extracurriculars applied ED to Duke and didn't get in. It's happening to lots of kids now, but it doesn't make it any easier. There's still some schools coming up for your son I imagine so don't give up hope!

And yet Duke is well-populated with Asian kids with perfect stats. Asians are over represented, in fact. Perfect stats doesn’t entitle a student to school of choice. And this suggestion that other applicants didn’t work is hard is egotistical and disgusting.

High stat DC also swimming in rejections.

I'm curious, OP, if he was at TJ or a similar school where the number of applicants who look like him in all ways is very high. At some colleges this might have impacted a decision.

High sats are not unique. Grade inflation, test prep, tutoring etc. have made it so parents and kids think they are smarter and more special than they actually are.

The % of really smart kids hasn’t changed in the last 30 years. The number of parents and kids who think they fall into that bucket has increased astronomically.

Some applicants and their parents need to know the real difference between a safety, a match and a reach. Don’t complain if all your reflections are from reaches or even what seemed to be “matches”.
