So, what is a “good family”?

No, you're a good family. But if your daughter is not poly, it's unlikely that another family would want to marry her.

Stable, financially self-sufficient (not getting gov't assistance), no addictions, no illegal activities, educated, no mental illness.

So no PPP loans, and no family farm.

IMO - a good family is one I feel comfortable setting up a play date with- nothing more, nothing less. Has absolutely nothing to do with $, except for a correlation to safe home/ safe neighborhood.

- Educated parents who are upstanding citizens and have a good moral compass. No drinking or drug abuse. Good head on their shoulders.
- No drama. Pleasant and friendly with a good reputation in the community.
- devoted to family and their children. Celebrate holidays with vigor, birthday parties, weddings, celebrations. Family comes together to support and uplift one another. Bonus if there are family traditions!
- lack of severe financial distress. You do not have to be extremely wealthy but you must possess enough wealth to have a safe clean home in a safe neighborhood, decent schools and neighbors. Children must have at least college education and be gainfully employed as adults.

Why would this matter for your spouse’s parents?

Good education is important. Elite schools aren’t needed but good basic schools are a necessity.

Interesting. I've known farmers who never went to college, took over their dad's farm, married their high school sweethearts, raised good kids, and were well-respected in their communities and churches. And, in some cases, they make more than most people who post on here. But since they never went to college, their family isn't "good."

You do realize the majority of Americans don't have a college degree, right?

I'm sure she probably isn't. What does this mean?

It's a joke. People marry individuals, not families! Your daughter is not going to marry a whole family, because that's illegal.

I mean, sure if you generally have something against gay people, I guess this would be an issue. If you don't have an issue with gay people, why would you care if your brother-in-law wasn't straight?

There is a business owner exemption (which farmers are) for education.

Respect maps?

In DCUM-speak, I assume it to mean wealthy, still-married parents. That’s about it.

Yes, not all families do.
