Girls are much much more likely to be mean bullies and abuse kids. I only hire teen babysitters whose families we personally know.

This is your opinion, not fact. The second part makes sense. Why would you hire someone to take care of your children you didn't know?

It’s a fact that a users are far more likely to be male (though of course most men and boys are not abusers!) in my opinion the risk isn’t worth it.

It's the same reason you probably wouldn't open your door for a young black male but wouldn't hesitate for a little old lady.

No need for your racism here.

Not racist. This thread is stating that statistically men are more likely to abuse than women. In the same vein, young black men are more likely to commit a crime than a little old lady.

What is your statistical evidence for this assertion

Young men are more likely to commit crimes. And if you’re white you are much more likely to be murdered or assaulted by a white person than you are a black person. Most crime is intraracial. So if you’re white (which I assume you are) you should be more cautious of young white men than young black men.

You don't cut grass in winter.

I will never have a male babysitter.

Then you are missing out on phenomenal sitters. I have two boys and used a make babysitter primarily for them. He was athletic and sksi on the honor roll. He wasn't primping, mooning over a girlfriend, talking on phone all the time.

He was babysitting and lawn work to buy his first car.

Both my boys tried to model him and so many of his good qualities trickled down to them. He was in such demand that I paid him well over prevailing wage.

Not hiring teen age boys to babysit is as prejudiced as not hiring an AA or Hispanic teen age girl.

So...did you hire a minority teen girl to babysit? No. You hired a male, and paid him more than you would have paid a girl. It sounds like you are extremely prejudiced, and sexist too.

Eh, I'm okay with missing out on some phenomenal babysitters if it also means missing out on the majority of child sex abusers. YMMV.

Yes. Nothing is risk free, but males are riskier than females. My sister and l were molested by a babysitter teenaged boy from our church, we were about 3 and 6.

My SIL and her sister were repeatedly raped by a teenage male babysitter.

I’ve been a nanny for 25 years and think mannies are amazing - especially for boys!! I really don’t want to play soccer for 2 hours a day, but typically mannies love that! On the flip side, maybe male nannies don’t want to do pretend play with calico critters or do crafts for hours on end, but that’s perfect for me. I work in Beverly Hills, and it’s super common for families to have male caregivers for their pre and teen boys.

Why would a teen need a babysitter at all? I would say that is extremely uncommon

You should listen to that dull roar in the empty space between your ears.

I paid him more because other parents were trying to poach him from me. If he wasn't available I used other sitters irrespective of gender and/or race.

We all have that right to choose the people we want to care for our children. And my girls don't pine over any boyfriend or girlfriend or on the phone all the time. You accuse us of bias against boys but careful your sexism is screaming loud and clear.

Because I was sexually abused by a male babysitter when I was 6.

That self-congratulatory poster expressed some very anti-female, pro-male stereotypes. They clearly have sex-based biases that they are too dumb to recognize.

No, he wasn't in demand. He told you he was so you would pay him more. He played you.

Anonymous wrote:It is assumed that pedophiles make up under 1% of the general population, but that doesn't mean that you have < 1/100 chance of selecting a pedophile babysitter. It's estimated that between 96% to 99% of convicted child sex offenders are male. We know that many pedophiles try to gain access to children, so if you take a selection of males who want to babysit, you would find a much higher percentage of those males are pedophiles than the general population. It's self-selection. So #notallmen, but the ones who actively pursue babysitting are more likely than the general population.
Not true. Most people believe being molested are by people in your own family.

Shes right. I babysit in my 20s to make extra money and would play sports with the kids, board games and female babysitters just aren’t as active with the kids. I’m male, btw.
