They’ve been so for a while. This woman miscarried in 2020 and was jailed in 2021 and she’s hardly the first example. |
This! |
| Leading cause of death for pregnant women is homicide. By and large it is homicide. It is not botched the portions it is not poor prenatal care, it is homicide. |
You think it’s simple to stop unwanted pregnancies? You going to snap your fingers and boom they never happen? |
| The biggest causes of maternal mortality are hemorrhage, infection and issues related to hypertension (pre-eclampsia). The truth is Americans are unhealthier as a whole compared to other countries. A lot of pregnant women are overweight which leads to a higher chance of complications. In addition we do a lot more unnecessary interventions which can lead a woman down a more dangerous path. A long induction with pitocin for example increases a woman's chance of hemorrhage. Our c/s rate is extremely high compared to other countries and any surgery comes with a risk of more complications such as infection. |
Oh but we need to force every woman to bear children regardless of whether or not she dies, according to the GOP |
PP here, politicians need to stay out of it and leave medical decisions up to a patient and her doctor. There are situations where a mother's life is potentially as risk and doctors should never feel they are unable to act because of a law. Infection is no joke for example and can lead to sepsis and death if not treated in a timely manner. |
All of your ignorance on full display. |
Ban abortion in order to “increase the domestic supply of white infants”. — Samuel Alito. Who is, indeed, a sicko. |
In rural areas, a woman who might or might not have reliable transportation may have to travel 100 miles each way to get pre-natal care. Which is only available 9-5, the hours she works. She misses work for an MD visit, she doesn’t eat. Are you unaware of these facts? |
No, the actual truth is that poverty and systemic racism are behind all the things you chalk up as the causes. |
Citation absolutely needed. A credible citation. |
How little have you looked into this issue that you’re unaware that Black women die at far higher rates than White women? |
You don't think a conscious choice to not provide healthcare that we know will prevent these deaths is indeed "letting" women die in childbirth. Because I sure do. It's a choice. |
This sounds like a lot of talking points without much evidence to back them up. Our health care is structured to prefer OBGYN and hospital care, so you are comparing apples to oranges. And hypertension doesn't always equal pre-eclampsia and you can get pre-eclampsia even if you have never had hypertension. As far as Americans being less healthier - correct. And our healthcare establishment and our infrastructure do little to assist in that regard. It's not exactly a slam dunk to admit that out healthcare is ineffective, which leads to a less healthy population, and therefore of course our maternal mortality rate is the highest of all developed countries. |
