can a college be too far away?

My DD's best friend goes to school in CA and can't come home for anything other than major breaks. My DD is glad she chose to stay closer to home (4 hr. drive) so that she's got all the space she needs but can still come home whenever she wants/needs to.

Yes. We have set a limit of eight hours max. Our reasoning is that if we needed to get to DC and could not fly we wanted to drive that was doable in a day or less. DC is currently looking at schools between three and eight hours away.
