Reason you didn’t buy that certain house?

Row house with inaccessible backyard that contained a huge tree that looked like it needed to be removed. Got an estimate which was about $30k. Declined to buy because we didn’t have that kind of cash (first home). Glad we didn’t because we would have outgrown the house sooner. It did appreciate faster than where we purchased though.

Lake (yes full of water) with dead rats in the crawl space

DH wanted to be walkable to places, so it wasn't his perfect location. We asked for a little closing cost help and essentially lost the house I loved, next to the park, for $3,000. Now, five years later, that house would be perfect for our lifestyle. It was twice as big, and we have growing kids. It's the kind of place we could have stayed in forever. With this house, sure we can walk to things, but it's on a busier street and it's 100 years old, so we're constantly making repairs. It's one of those regrets that I just have to live with.

I was concerned about the schools. Now, I realize that was dumb because the promise of good schools in FFX has been underwhelming. I wish we had stayed in Alexandria.

These are not all from one home:

-Needed too much work, well over $100K

-On a street with unkempt homes, or trashy cars

-On a double yellow

-No outdoor space

-We could hear the freeway

Poor quality flip - so many of these in MoCo; I figure if you went cheap on tile installation, cabinets, paint jobs, you probably went cheap on the important things behind the wall.

Also one odd neighborhood had a two car garage shared by two houses. Each house got one space and one half of the garage.

I don't mind squeaky floors, but I ended up in a historic 1890s Victorian. I can always tell when one my teenagers is trying to sneak around (or out) at night.

Very thick utility lines running directly behind the house, visible from every window facing the back and also visible from the front of the house.

Different houses:

1. Was in contract. Sellers backed out. 2. Mold/radon/asbestos/damp basement/on a slope. Loved the house, though it was a bad boy attraction. 3. Too much in reno needs 4. Too slow 5. Too stupid

We didn't really think we were Langley HS people and the house we were considering there was too big for our family anyway.

Yes, creepy basement is probably more of a deal breaker than people realize.
