Oh, Maryland, what happened to you?

It’s sad, too, because the state and county governments have squandered enormous potential for decades. There’s no excuse for Maryland playing a distant second fiddle to Virginia.

A. Md is the richest state in the USA and the 2nd most educated state. Owns the whole Potomac River due to winning the civil war and has every national attraction and all pro sports on its side of the River. Having the most billionaires, best privates and country clubs is just a poke in the eye. The killer is having Georgetown, Big Ten UMD, Annapolis Navy and John’s Hopkins as the best concentrated academic community outside Mass.

Spot on.

My parents finally left Maryland a few years ago and we don’t go back often. I traveled to Bethesda and Rockville yesterday for the first time in about a year. What struck me the most:

-panhandlers at every side of all the major intersections. I’m shocked Montgomery county allows that.

-why on earth did they take 1/3 of a major artery (Old Georgetown Road) and close it off for bike traffic? Want to know how may bicyclists I saw using that section of the road? Exactly zero.

-I almost hit two pedestrians in two completely different areas who stepped in front of my car in the middle of the block when they were looking at their phones. Neither of them ever seemed to even notice I was there.

-I also almost got hit four separate times by people either pulling into traffic from the side streets without caring if it was clear, or realizing they wanted to turn at the next intersection when they were several lanes over.

Is it entitlement? Or do people in Maryland just tend to have their heads up their rears? I couldn’t figure it out but the vibe there is so different than it was when I was growing up there (in the 70’s and 80’s) and so different from Virginia. How do people stomach living there these days?

You sound like a real POS. Stay out of Montgomery County.

Actually Mississippi is the primary embarrassment, followed by Alabama and then Florida.

Maryland and Virginia are much of a muchness, especially in the DC metro.

You must have dropped out of high school in Mississippi.

Ha troll, I'm actually from Virginia, which is why I know Maryland and Virginia are pretty much the same.

Not np, but are you the little obnoxious Washingtonian, hey toots, the world no longer revolves around you and your prejudices towards other communities. We're all WOKE now, just not nut jobs like you. Bless you little heart.

That's funny, I'm not from the NoVa part of Virginia either, I'm from the "non woke" part of Virginia. Try again.

+1

Another Bethesda native, now living in Silver Spring. You sound ridiculous, OP. “So different” from Virginia? Please.

Try again troll. This is actually sort of funny and really illustrates that these Virginia versus Maryland thread are troll threads. I live where I live because it's close to my job, and it's fine, whether in the Maryland or Virginia parts of the DC area.

I think that out of area trolls are trying to get us to attack each other, hence the defense of Florida.

It’s always started by by people from poorer, less educated state of Virginia. They are frantic, desperate and seething.

The VA vs Maryland threads used to be somewhat funny but now they are just played out and overdone. It doesn't escape me that Virginians are always the ones starting the pettiness. Other than the drivers, figure out what your true issues are and deal with them silently.

As someone who lives in VA and works in MD, you have to understand what a culture shock it is to drive though and see cracking streets, construction projects that never budge forward, badly designed infrastructure, etc. It is a pretty huge difference. That's probably why the threads are mostly started by VA people

Okay, troll. I wonder if trolls troll. Do you troll and spend time trolling? Trolls troll and some even troll. Therefore, trolls troll and others go trolling. Or both troll and troll.

Wow, what a way to put down those who are poor. Your character points South. Ironically, you are frantic, desperate, and seething.

Uh, there are many more affluent and educated areas around the country than the one you are in. They look down on you as well.

Yeah I’m sure all of this happened in your one day in Maryland.
