Summer sessions are not typically when kids are in school, so yes, it adds a year or your kid will give up their summers. No matter how you slice it, the coop model adds time.

Unless you don't plan to do internships in Summers.

No need to if you do coops during the school year.

The point is that 2 coops however it's integrated into its 4 year curriculum and 2 Summer internships at other schools are basically the same.

Here's a sample 4 year plan for CS.

https://catalog.northeastern.edu/undergraduate/computer-information-science/computer-science/bscs/#planofstudytext

If you have some AP credits, you can have a Summer of two session off.

Again, I have a family member in this program. 5 years is the standard time to completion if one does coops. No reason to lie. He likes it btw. Some families may care about the extra year, others would like the coops.

You are ignorant even when your family member is in the program.
They give you options - 4 year with 2 coops or 5 year with 3 coops.
I provided schedule for 4 year one.
Don't make fool out of yourself.

I’m not the one making a fool out of myself. Most kids do not do summer sessions and take the 5 years. Sorry if that is upsetting to you,

The NE boosters are out of control on this board. So glad my own kid did not apply there.

WTF is this clown

didn't even apply, but pretending to know more about the program my kid is currently in
Seriously WTF

Not pretending anything, already indicated numerous times I have a family member who is currently a cs major at NE. Work on your reading skills, please.

It doesn't matter how you feel about the school, but please refrain from providing wrong information and what you don't know about to people.

np - everybody "thinks" it's the other person who is providing wrong info though. i am sure that pp thinks it's you who are providing wrong info.

Since you insist on spreading misinformation, I looked up the common data set. The four year graduation rate from Northeastern is 20 percent, so your assertion that most students graduate in 4 years is false. Data is here. https://offices.nsuok.edu/_resources/documents/CDS_2020-2021.pdf

There are many schools to choose from.

No need to get obsessed over a college just because they rejected you or deferred you or whatever.

I did a 6-month coop my junior year of undergrad and going back to school afterwards was jarring and weird. I was out in the “real world” making money and then suddenly I wasn’t.

However in the last 10 years they have been buiding a strong CS program. But it is no match UMD CS (or other flagship top CS schools like Michigan, Washington, Massachusetts, and Illinois) who have been at this game for the past five decades.

Nope. Northeastern has not been a commuter school for at least 35 years. Like it or not. But keep coming on here and spouting your nonsense.

OP, be sure to get your information from people who have actually been to each campus, not someone who claims to.

Northeastern has been a top CS and Engineering school since the inception of their programs (well before you were born).

Super confused as to why “commuter school” is supposed to be an insult. Lots of kids around here could be commuting to UMD via train to save money but don’t.

It is not an insult - but you gave false information. The OP was not asking about George Mason.

This is a lot of sock puppeting to try to hide the post about NE’s 4 year grad rate of 20 percent.

Incidentally, I didn’t even bring this up as a negative, just something to consider if op’s child is interested in coops. My family member was ok with the extra year.

Didn’t account for the fact that the NE booster would so adamantly try to deny this despite objective data supporting this very well known fact.

So much false information on these boards. It was useful for a while, but the one or two posters with some perceived score to settle really detracts from the useful and factual information, because they tend to give their opinion and not factual information (while claiming it as "fact"). These posters clearly have not been to certain campuses that they claim to "know so much about". They should be embarrassed, but they are too caught up in their own world to have any self awareness.

We do not want to know where you were not admitted, we really don't care, time to give it a rest.

You have to admit, grown adults should not be starting threads or chiming in when they do not have true or valuable information. The behavior had really come to light with certain colleges.

That's for 2013-2014 when 5 year program was the norm, but it's outdated.

There is only one more recent cds 2021-22, and that shows an even lower 4 year graduation rate for the class that entered in 2015 of 13 percent. The 20 percent number was for the class that entered in 2014. Thus, they “should” have graduates in 2018 or 2019 if graduated in 4 years but graduated in 2019-2021 instead. Not sure how you can call any of this outdated.
