It was actually called Boston Tech.

But this is 21st century now.

LOL, I have not dog in this fight but this a reach. MIT has been MIT for over 100 years. Northeastern was a 3rd rate commuter school up until like 15 years ago.

LOL, NOPE.
Initially MIT was more like vocational focused
Colleges in the US were regarded 2nd 3rd rate compared to European colleges.

+1

Fascinating how little people actually know first hand about some of these colleges, yet take the liberty to try pontificate about them anyway. NEU has not been a commuter school for about 70 years - that is a long time! NEU has always been a top engineering and CS college.

Extra fascinating how far some posters will go to try to prove their inaccurate point. Fascinating study in psychology issues!

It's well after WWII, 60s even 70s that US colleges start surpassing European colleges.
Colleges in the US were regarded 2nd and 3rd rate, so top students who really study something went to Euro colleges in France, Germany, UK, etc.
NEU haters seem to be stupid.

So, if MIT was third rate by your logic in the 1970s, what does that make NEU during that same timeframe?

Looks like you really believed MIT was MIT from the beginning, the #1 school in the world leading science and technology.
It was regarded as a vocational school almost until around 1950. It began to rise thanks to WWII and the Cold War when it started receiving federal funding for research. Until then, top students wanted to go to European universities to further their study and research. Most of the US colleges start small like that.

Imagine some Europeans keep saying MIT was a vocational school and 2nd rate 3rd tier school until the 70s. Imagine whenever MIT comes up, HEY, MIT was a vocational school and lower-tier than European universities back then.

Okay, whatever, Doesn't mean anything, and they look stupid.
What's important is today.

What’s stupid is you continuing to say MIT and Northeastern in the same sentence. Yes, MIT benefited from funding. It rose to be what it is from is research and contributions to the science and technology field. Northeastern benefitted from a university president that gamed the system. It’s ‘rise’ has been well documented. https://www.bostonmagazine.com/news/2014/08/26/how-northeastern-gamed-the-college-rankings/

The old article basically says Northeastern played by the rules while there are schools who had cheated.
We have relatively recent cases of cheating such as Berkeley, Emory, Columbia, etc. etc.

Northeastern is probably the school that improved the most along with the ranking.

It's stupid to keep saying but but but back in the days...

I think a lot of the boomers can't grasp how colleges and college admissions have changed since "back in the day."

Schools, like all institutions, could become worse, stay static, or improve.

Northeastern has improved. Why that is so difficult to countenance for some, I'm not sure. The qualifications and outcomes of their students are undeniable.

As has some publics like UGA, Florida, etc.

Taking bets on how long before these threads are shut down by the paranoid person(s) who is/are convinced there is a unique Northeastern basher posting here?

Who?

A friend of ours’ DD did this and spent the year in Germany and loved it. It can be a good experience for some

If it's not for you, simply decline.
What's so hard about it??

My high stat kid was offered 1 year deferral alternate path admission by Georgia Tech with EA application.
Many kids were deferred to the RD round. We were curious why? Something to do with OOS?
It's called pathway program.
https://admission.gatech.edu/transfer/transfer-pathway-programs

Anyways, we thought it was better than decline. Had that option for 1 year than threw it away.
Kid is actually attending Northeastern and felt absolutely no reason to switch to Georgia Tech after a year.
We never talk bad about GaTech and no hard feeling.

Many colleges offer a secondary pathway. The UVA community college route exists. That doesn't cheapen the value of a UVA degree, nor does it make the CC transfers "lesser" students.

All this fuss about a directional school.

There's a right school out there for everyone. Unless we're talking a for-profit diploma-mill, I see no reason to bash another child's choice

Same. Their interest in these threads is fascinating. They must somehow be affiliated with the school.

Actually, what is fascinating is that six NEU threads in one day are brought to page one of the subs by the same trolls. Truly fascinating. Even more fascinating, is that they are not above paying for VPNs to do so. When the trolls show how preoccupied they are, and how angry they are that they were not admitted to NEU, believe them.

Fascinating!
