Not really identifying as sounds like many kids. Also may not be from this area and may be a DD and not a DS. All of the details may not be factual. |
DP. Any links for the bolded? I had never heard that before. |
Carolina Covenant is a need-based scholarship given to outstanding kids and includes a work study component etc. I believe you have to be 200% below poverty line. UNC merit-based scholarships are not “full rides” except for Morehead Cain and Robertson. We asked on the tour. |
Some people on here are so weird, always trying to find something wrong or some conspiracy. Ever heard of the one-child policy in China? Many kids were given up for adoption between 1980s and 2010s. Sure males were preferred, but there were a large number of variables causing many males to go up for adoption too. And OP, congrats to your son and thank you for adopting someone |
UNC parent here. UNC has a lot of scholarships. The generic one is Carolina Scholars which comes with pre-approval to be considered for Honors Carolina. Carolina Scholars comes with a wide range of $$ offers, Carolina Covenant is different. Morehead Cain and Robertson are run separately and have their own interview processes. OP look hard at Carolina with the scholarship, your kid might love it there if he liked Duke. Also you can cross-register at Duke if you’re at Carolina, which might be worth considering! |
NP but some quick googling got me: https://www.vanityfair.com/news/business/2012/11/jamie-dimon-tom-brady-hang-in-there https://www.businessinsider.com/2008/7/jamie-dimon-gave-away-1-8-million-more-than-you-made-last-year?amp Also Seinfeld was all over the news for like 5 months because media kept spotting him at Duke games, and it’s no coincidence his kids go there. Dimon and Seinfeld probably spent hundreds of thousands if not millions to buy the acceptances, most of it not publicized or made common knowledge |
| Not good enough for Duke |
Is it possible Seinfeld’s and Dimon’s kids got in on academic merit? It’s not a guarantee that they had to buy their way in |
And is he ok with you posting about him online and are you ok with other families knowing you are posting? If so, no problem... PP was pointing out is that some people feel fully anonymous here but with the info you have given out - you may not be anonymous to people who know you or your child. Again - if you are ok with that it's fine. |
OMG can you leave this poor parent in peace? Are you honestly doubting that any Chinese male has ever been adopted? And did they ever say the baby was adopted FROM China? One can be of Chinese decent and not come directly from China! Jeepers. |
But no proof of that. Neither of those links provided any proof either. I think it's irresponsible to spread misinformation like that, don't you? |
This is worth noting - especially for your son's interests. My DC was looking at Duke for IR and Duke-UNC jointly run an IR program with cross registration and joint events. |
| Chapel Hill is a much nicer place for undergrads to hang out than Durham. Duke has a beautiful campus but Chapel Hill is a better college town. |
+1 And honestly, I've never been in a place with soooo much college gear on people walking around town. They must love their school! |
Not the PP. I don't have a link, but I know pretty much first hand about one of the individuals listed here as well as another not listed, but in the same cohort. |
