Old view. Not accurate.

I always lol when these people say I wouldn’t send my kid to this or that school. Meanwhile, their kid probably wouldn’t be accepted anyway and they know it deep inside lol. These haters always have a mouthful even knowing very well their kids can’t keep up. Comedy.

USC takes a ton of transfer students every year. Just another way to game the system to make it look more elite. Of course, it’s working.

Whoohoo!

Go USC!

It's still USC - the University of Spoiled Children that couldn't get into UCLA.

30% of Berkeley's new admission is transfer
Many from community colleges.

Nope. My child got into both and chose USC. Extraordinary place. Private, unlike UCLA which is an overwhelmingly large, public institution.

Ask any college counselor and you'll hear it's a "reach for everyone." Top students at the top privates are rejected year after year. As hard to get into as an ivy, full of tremendous opportunities, well-funded, beautiful, dedicated faculty, and, yes, incredibly fun too. Widely considered a dream school and a reach for top students. If its not for you, fine, but to suggest its a fallback to UCLA or other public schools is just inaccurate.

Total enrollment:

UCLA 46,100

USC. 49,500

I’d say USC is equally overwhelmingly large.

Unless you’re very rich or not instate, I can’t imagine attending USC over UCLA.

Look up the undergrad population only - usc is way smaller than ucla.

SC throws HEAVY merit scholarship money at top students. National merit scholars that are accepted get half tuition scholarships + an excellent football team during the Pete Carroll years in the late 2000s + SoCal location (there is now a subway that goes straight to Santa Monica) + facilities (campus is beautiful) and it’s really not hard to see how the admit rate has gone down so drastically.

And while there is a party scene and very spoiled rich kids (not dissimilar from Georgetown), I was not part of Greek life and my closest friends were in engineering and pre-med. back in the day when the admit rate was 20%, there were plenty of nerdy kids so I’d imagine there’s even more now.

USC is great. I do prefer UCLA. I think it’s a prettier campus, better located, and of course less expensive! Academics opportunities, reputation, and networking are excellent at both.

Maybe for CA residents who can pay instate.

People prefer USC outside of CA

It’s horrible, actually.

I grew up in California; moved out 25 years ago. The state just gets worse and worse every year.

I mean, the scenery is nice and all.

But there is no way I would send my child to any school in California.

Standford and USC are the two schools I would send my kid in CA.

Caltech and Berkeley are the two schools I would send my kid in CA.

What is Standford? Never heard of it.

Do you mean Stanford University in Palo Alto? Or Samford? But Samford is in Alabama.

Never heard of Standford though.

You have terrible skill in educated guessing.
It's an important skill.

This is not true of all people outside of CA.... Our DC applied to UCLA but not USC.
