Seriously! OP stayed in an Airbnb for a total of $975 (split 4 ways!) over NY weekend! That’s a crappy Airbnb. Anyone with a decent place is charging way more than that. You can’t cheap out and act like the Queen of Sheba at the same time! |
No thanks. Hotels are better. |
“Subject?” What a princess.

I’d rather stay home than make it work like that. If that makes me or my my kids entitled, so be it. The thought of sharing one hotel room with 8 people, half of whom aren’t even my family, makes me feel physically ill. Airbnbs allow us separate spaces for people to retreat to when they need downtime. They’ve also provided some beautiful outdoor spaces that a hotel could never. I spend tons of time searching for the right ones far in advance of a trip, and I’ve never been disappointed. |
| It’s cheaper to stay in a nice hotel. |
We have both of those situations and book a suite or an apartment. We could make one room work, have made it work from time to time, but have the resources to make other choices. But since our standard isn’t always “we managed just fine” I suppose I’m supposed to feel either shamed or entitled. I don’t. |
And your point is? People have different ideas of what they want on a vacation. To the person who cannot afford a hotel, your kids would be considered entitled for traveling. We are a family of four and do just fine in one room right now, but I see no reason to try to insult other people and sling “entitled” because they are traveling in more luxury. Often people do that because they are envious and wish they could travel in a better style without worrying about the money. Own your envy and stop making it about other people. |
tell me you are living with col of 10 years a go without telling me. Lookup how much it costs for a cleaning on dcum and you will see 3+, and that is without linens, towels etc. Inflation has raised the col a lot |
| I don’t like Airbnb’s. I will sometimes book a house or condo rental for a beach location but I like to book through a property management company. |
LOL, we've done doordash and grocery delivery w/ airbnbs for years. Last hotel I stayed in they only offered overpriced snacks and drink fridge items, awful. |
not really, they'll just put you in another dirty room and its one front desk person managing 100s of guests, and if there are complaints everyone is complaining overwhelming them. With an airbnb you get one host per place and concierge like service, if not you need to pick better hosts. |
Don’t know what types of hotels you stay in but I stay in hotels and get actual concierges who are trained and have appropriate degrees. I don’t get some couple that’s buying up investment properties and suddenly a host and concierge. |
This. |

Did you report it to the rental agency? Did they refund any of your money? I would have raised holy hell (and my DH isn't even THAT allergic, just mildly). I hope you at least left a scathing review. What an a**hole owner. |
