I’m done with Airbnbs.

the worst experience I've had are through property management companies at the beach, look at the yelp reviews for outerbanks and va beach they are the worst. You can't do anything to hold them accountable so they never clean and the places are old and run down.

this is a lie, its impossible to remove a review unless it violates a very narrow policy for racism, and retaliation

OR property owner has the ability to BLOCK a negative review.

I'm not OP but I posted about staying in a bad house with black mold over New Years weekend. It was booked by a friend, not me, and I asked if she was going to leave a bad review. She said no because she wanted to maintain her high rating because she books them all the time. She said her review would be something like "had an issue that the host immediately fixed" and I was floored. No one being able to take a shower in a black mold-free environment for 24 hours isn't an immediate fix, but okay, keep your rating, sure.

I can see Airbnb being the best option for a large family vacation but for me and my family (2 adults, 2 kids), a hotel is perfect for us. We usually book a room with a kitchenette so we can do our own breakfast and lunch to avoid having to eat out so many times.

I've never encountered black mold in any hotel and I stayed in some shady Super 8 motels growing up with poor parents, ha.

I think the hotel lobbyists are bored today.

Yeah, apparently 75% of the people here are going to drop dead in the next few days because of the surface mold on our shower grout.

Anonymous wrote:Lol another hate thread. Do you know how much it costs to clean a house? 130 isn't it, it's about 3-400, so that amount should be a red flag. Also look at reviews, it suddenly just doesn't happen

Not true. We don’t know where OP is right now and how big the house is, but in the vast majority of places, $130 is more than enough to clean an average size house/apartment. $3-400 are ridiculous.

Airbnb superhost. The going rate to clean a 2bed/2bath 1,000 square in DC is around $110.

I think my family has a different travel style than the hotel-loving posters here. Airbnbs have allowed us to experience a little more local flavor in off-the-beaten-path neighborhoods where you wouldn’t find hotels. We’ve had some really memorable experiences in amazing houses and apartments far from the touristy areas. Without exception, when my teenagers talk about their favorite parts of previous vacations, they’re always little random things/places that we never would have stumbled across had we been in a hotel.
