let’s leave learning disabilities out of this please - the poor kids at the school who need special accommodations are requesting those circumstances because they need them.. |
| ^ That’s just not true. At all schools kids are gaming the system and getting accommodations that aren’t really warranted. |
You must not be familiar with the game that is played at Sidwell. Parents pay $5K for the neuropsych and get accommodations. Basically, the psychologists want the business: they are not going to find your kid "typical" once you have paid the money and most smart kids have enough asynchrony in their IQ to warrant a "diagnosis". You and I probably have this as well. There is no way that a huge percentage of super bright Sidwell kids need accommodations but they get it. The kids that this hurts the most are of course the kids who have genuine needs. AND of course the kids who can't afford the exam or don't have parents micromanaging every advantage from middle school on. It's a sick culture. |
| Weirdest thread. No one has mentioned where these kids got in and why we are celebrating. |
Many with resources buy special diagnosis so that their 'thriving' snowflakes can receive extra time on exams (including ACT/SAT) and homework in HS and college. |
I was shocked to learn this and told a friend about this scam and she went and got the diagnosis for her kid and her kid is receiving 'accommodations' for exams and projects, homework etc. She says I should have told her sooner. Crazy. |
i mean cmon people - is this even a real advantage? they still have to answer the questions right? an untimed test doesn’t change that |
It is a huge advantage. Don't be ridiculous. |
Ok guy |
Rewarding poor character may be an eventual disadvantage when a situation arises that won't do that. At least let's hope so. |
All selective colleges do this. Liars and cheaters with fake awards, fake non profits, fake ECs, heavily edited essays by professional editors, etc |
But hard working athletes are the bad people? |
We are talking about hardworking academic students and test takers. Don't reward cheaters. Don't reward cheating athletes either. And who knows what running fast or hitting a ball has to do with taking advantage of high level academic opportunities but that just is what it is. Silliness. |
| This post is a troll. Sidwell like the other Big 3 is having lower than usually Ivy admits. Just ask any actual parent. |
This post is a Sidwell kid. Hope they're enjoying winter break. |
