People who stay standing at seated concerts

He asked people in the upper levels to come down to the floor, and people in the orchestra seats to stand. They did. So the seat that I had picked specifically to be able to watch the fingers of the guitarists was surrounded by towering people who never sat down. Rock on!

Please tell me this wasn’t Bob Weir

No, I’ve never heard of Bob Weir.

I’d heard these musicians before— at fully seated concerts at the Strathmore. If anything, I’d have expected the Kennedy Center audience to be even more staid — vs, say, The Anthem. It was a great concert! My only regret is that I splurged on the ticket price — and couldn’t actually see any of the musician’s hands. If he wanted people to rock out — and I get that— an overhead screen would have been nice.

Especially with this context above, OP, I'd actually let the musicians know that when they encourage standing and dancing and ask people to come to the front it creates an issue. (If they're on Twitter that's usually the best and most public way to reach out in a way they might eventually see.) Especially since you had a realistic expectation-- based on previous attendance at their other shows! -- of being able to sit, I think you should let them know that some audience members cannot truly SEE the show when they do this. And they need to think about audience members who cannot stand.

I wouldn't say that for every show or every artist or venue but in your specific case, having seen them at other venues, I'd just point this out to them.

And I admit, I just don’t have the guts to ask people to please sit down every time. I do sometimes, but I don’t like that I have to- why can’t they just sit down after cheering for that big touchdown?

+1 I hate it so much at sporting events. If someone is blocking your view, then you pretty much have to stand to see which in turn is inconsiderate of others. Stand when you are excited, otherwise, sit down.

Unfortunately, according to some on this thread, unless people like your neighbor are in a full-body cast or a wheelchair, the PPs don't give a damn. Maybe not even then.

I stay home because I want to hear the artist sing, not the out of tune people standing next to me. I watched a Harry Styles' live concert video and all you could hear was the crowd singing in the high tones of 13 year olds.

I can buy an artist's entire music catalog for the price of a ticket. Am I old? I guess so.

Sometimes I feel that way too. Other times, I need to dance and be with my people. However, Post Malone concerts are always for dancing (and singing, which I usually don't do)!

They are so much fun, and you'd be crazy to think you are going to sit there like you are at the Strathmore.

I mean full body cast people should probably stay home and recover. Lizzo will be back next go around.

The standing at concerts doesn't bother me, but don't be the sign person.

NO ONE LIKES THE PERSON BLOCKING EVERYONES VIEW WITH A SIGN!

Rock concerts are really intended for dancing and singing along. Live music is a collective experience where people are encouraged to get up and dance and feel the music. I feel terrible for those who cannot stand but there are special access seats that do not add extra cost. I think if you are going to a rock and roll rowdy music show you should know that most people are up dancing. I’m short and often can’t see the performers even when standing and I just live with it.

I stand at all concerts I go to. Stand and dance. I love it.

It must be exhausting!

Why would it be exhausting?

Wow someone doesn't listen to pop music.....

Google Taylor Swift Anti-hero and read the lyrics in the chorus.

I don't think it's shocking that this age group isn't breathlessly awaiting Taylor's latest drop.
