I'm overweight but not diabetic. My doctor prescribed Wegovy after we discussed it but my insurance rejected it. What are my options? |
Pay out of pocket. It's worth it if you have serious weight to lose. |
I don’t get this. It’s to their benefit that you maintain a healthy weight. I’m sorry. |
And take a giant leap of faith that you’re getting what you paid for and it won’t hurt or kill you. |
Maybe not if it’s to the tune of $1200 a month for as long as the patient lives. If insurance isn’t covering it it’s because it’s cheaper not to. |
My DH gets a boatload of medication from his trips to India. Every airport has stocked pharmacies there. |
Uh Saxenda is a weight loss drug. Prescribed for weight loss. |
Is anyone actually getting Wegovy or Ozempic in NOVA? I just got a prescription for Wegovy but every pharmacy I call doesn’t have it. Is it easier to get Ozempic? |
I’ve had no issues getting my prescription filled in DC. Friend is taking Ozempic and lives in VA (Alexandria/FC County). Zero issues. |
And these diabetic medications aren't "lifesaving"! There are are about 20 other medications on the market that can take the place of them. So get a grip. You see that Ozempic commercial 24/7, the medication is available, it just has to be ordered and can take a few days. Anyway, the manufacturer is making literally billions off this drug and the hype around it. We are doing exactly what they want. They want the drug to be hard to get so more people will want it. These drugs work for the demographic they are pandering too. Even on the Ozempic commercial they hype " you lose weight! |
For those asking about why the medications are not being covered by private insurance, ask yourselves this, who had to pay for older sicker Americans? We all do, through Medicare!
The private insurance companies have no interest in covering these drugs as it is the older, severely overweight who cost so much, and they aren't paying for that. And the drug companies motives are pure and simple: profit. Many are willing and able to pay full price and they will ride that out as long as they can. |
A friend who needs this medication badly- very overweight - has not been able to get Ozempic so her doctor prescribed Victosa. She's with Kaiser, said it will be $60 per month. |
*Victoza |
I get that. But I just got an $85,000 statement for a single stent and three days in the hospital. Seems like my insurance would have been better off giving me Ozampic last year. People are managing diabetes and cardiovascular issues long before they qualify for Medicare. I’m 15 years away. |
I am increasingly confident that some fit/thin people are angry that others won't be so fat anymore. |
