There’s not a single food my kids won’t eat at least a few bites of to try it.

That makes me really sad.

It makes you sad that my kids genuinely like to eat and try new food? OK! I guess your little heart will just break when I tell you that my 6yo loves eating sardines and mustard on Saltines with her grandpa.

No, it makes me sad that your child thinks he needs to eat something he doesn't like on a holiday with lots of food choices to please someone else. If your kid wants mustard and sardines then guilting them into eat mac and cheese is as manipulative as forcing sardines and mustard on a kid with different tastes.

DP here.
It is lovely that the children will try all foods in small quantities. I am sure that they late fill themselves up with food that they are fond of. PP, you are weird about feeong sad about it. You may have some negative childhood memories about food and your parents.

In my small family thanksgiving dinner (only kid family, my parents, probably one uncle) thanksgiving is for the food that makes you happy.

We have a turkey and 2 extra turkey legs
Double serving of mashed potatoes
Stuffing fancy recipe out of the bird that I love
Green bean casserole from cans that we make 2 times a year
White House rolls
Gravy
Canned cranberry sauce

Kraft Mac and cheese
Dino nuggets

Everyone has several things they love. There is dessert too. But I hate dessert so I don’t even know what it is lol 😂

My kids will eat stuffing.

All of it! They are 4 and 7. They’ll try anything, and I know they like everything that will be on the table this year.

6 months before high school graduation. No joke. Never tried steak, cheesesteak, eggs, or even Chinese food until then. On his own (I'd long since given up), figured that he had better get used to a variety of foods so that when he went to college he would be able to eat whatever was in the dining hall, or food court with new friends, etc.

My nephew basically had the same turnaround. He eats everything now. It's pretty impressive.

I'm this PP with an update - at dinner last night, we were discussing Thanksgiving. My older two announced they would be eating mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce (the latter is their favorite?). Still betting on olives and rolls for the youngest.

They’ll try everything, pretty much. They’ll eat turkey, mashed potatoes and peas the most. But they are curious about new foods and know that if they don’t like something, they don’t have to take more than a bite or two. They only foods they’ve ever rejected (so far) are avocado for my oldest and baked beans from my youngest.

12 and 14 year old boys have always eaten everything. They have to go last when serving themselves because they will not leave enough for anyone else. The oldest loves to return to the serving dishes after a meal with a serving spoon and eat everything left in the dishes while coo-ing and murmuring “mmmmm.”

You’d think they’d be blobs, but, they both play hockey and can’t put on a pound between August and March.

Everything but stuffing. I think its a texture thing. I don't eat gravy or pumpkin pie. They will eat green beans, cranberry sauce, turkey, sweet potatoes casserole, sweet potato pie, etc. I have one kid that eats everything but beets and even he won't touch stuffing.

I wish someone would force my BIL to do this. “Oh look, a dish of stuffing! I’m the first one to take a helping, and there are 12 other adults here, so I will take 1/4 of it!”

Now they are teens and initially we were just going to skip the whole thing, but finally decided on a huge pancake brunch instead. I'm actually excited.

We get a ton of dim sum here.

Growing up we did this too but we had roast beef with yorkshire pudding. It's my mom's bday and she loves that meal. Following by a big chocolate cake.

Mine will eat the turkey, mashed potatoes, rolls, and green beans. She'll pass on the cranberry sauce and stuffing.

I thought my 4 year old would at least eat a roll. But then my husband made a test batch and gave us all samples and she declared them “disgusting.” I thought they were amazing go figure

My teens will eat most things we make. We try not to make things that they don't like.

Chicken in rosemary and lemon sauce (because we all hate turkey)
Green beans
Corn casserole
Stuffed mushrooms and peppers
Cauliflower steaks
Creamed spinach
Mac and Cheese
Beet salad.
Dill potatoes
Honey baked ham

We will serve very light appetizers - artichoke dip and chips, nuts, some cheese. That my kids might not like.
Dessert is chocolate cake, apple pie, mixed fruit cream.

My kids are 8 and 10. They will eat turkey, sweet potatoes, rolls, green beans (but not green bean casserole), any veggie that is pretty plain, cranberry sauce. They're just not into all the casserole-type foods with a lot of mixed ingredients.
