You've got the definition right but the application wrong. "Dissent" is a keyword here. Disinformation and fake news including foreign fake news is not dissent or honest discourse.

Any tool can be abused. Some tools should not exist due to their potential for abuse. Would you want the Trump administration to be able to censor "disinformation?"

A Moscow court has fined the owner of Wikipedia 2 million rubles ($32,600) for failing to delete two entries on its website describing Russia's ongoing, unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. In April, the same court ordered Wikimedia to pay 5 million rubles in two separate hearings on similar charges. In recent months, Russian courts have fined Twitch, TikTok, Google, Facebook, and Twitter for refusing to delete content. President Vladimir Putin has accused social-media platforms of flouting the country's Internet laws.

Valeriya Rytvina, founder of the Council of Bloggers under Russia's Federation Council, was expelled after the group appealed to Putin to reconsider the decision to block Instagram and Facebook.
Facebook and Instagram were banned in Russia in March after a court labeled parent company Meta as "extremist" amid a wider crackdown by Putin on independent news outlets and Western social media companies.

But I'm guessing the OP isn't based in Cyprus?

700,000 people had left Russia after the mobilisation and said this represented “a serious blow to Putin’s defence industry and for the economy of Russia”
“These people are the most active and educated people with certain financial means including 30,000 Russian programmers mainly based in Cyprus. It has significantly hit Russia’s ability to pursue the cyber war.”

A billionaire Russian banker, Oleg Tinkov, has given up his Russian citizenship because of the war in Ukraine and condemned "Putin fascism".
Also in April, Mr Tinkov sold his family's 35% stake in the company he founded - TCS Group Holding, based in Cyprus. The buyer was one of Russia's richest men, Vladimir Potanin, head of the mining giant Norilsk Nickel.
Media reports say another Russian banker, Nikolay Storonsky, has also given up his Russian citizenship.
Earlier this month, billionaire Israeli-Russian investor Yuri Milner announced he had renounced his Russian citizenship.

Stop being daft. The stories they were trying to stop from coming out, specifically the lab leak theory and other takes on Covid that have now been proven to be either correct or have merit (like vaccines not stopping transmission), was not an agenda being pushed by Trump. You are either are against fascism - that is, the collusion between government and big corporations to stifle opposition and free speech - or you are for it. Seems like they’re a lot of fascists in this thread that like to larp as anti fascist because they don’t like Trump.

It’s sad to see this country moving toward the authoritarianism we thought were relegated to countries like Russia and China.

Public health is an entirely different kettle of fish. The power of authority to handle public health emergencies has been well-accepted for more centuries than the US has been a country, and unchallenged until now. And the weakening of this authority is something that our children will suffer for in the future.

The collusion between government and the pharmaceutical industry is also a text book definition of fascism, yet for some reason “Democrats” who used to be skeptical of big corporations and corporate influence in DC had no trouble with government telling Facebook and Twitter to shut down anyone who questioned the efficacy of vaccines that were being fast tracked by billion dollar corporations in an industry that had a history of shady dealings in the past (the opioid crisis for example).

People who had the audacity to question these big corporations, who had extraordinary financial leverage over politicians and a revolving door between them and the NIH, were silenced on social media under direction of the government. If that isn’t fascism, you don’t know what fascism means.

When the government tells them what to suppress or censor, it is a matter of free speech.

This took place in 2020. Who was president then?

So what I'm understanding here is that the Trump DHS pressured Twitter to censor information that the Trump DHS didn't like. That does seem like a problem for republicans.

It is a problem for all citizens when their government can coordinate with large corporations to stifle speech they dislike, regardless of which party happens to be in power at the time.

I’m stunned that folks think RT is legitimate media but criticize the MSM as government sponsored. Your thinking is beyond f**ed up.

And it’s not just lies. DOJ can rapidly request things like kiddie porn taken down.

But Yes. Go lie on Truth Social.

This is not about criminal activity such as child pornography, as you reference in your post. This is about opinion, and nuanced debate and conversation where the facts are not yet clear.

As you know (and are ignoring), there were a bunch of anti-Trump folk in that administration. He should have totally cleaned house when he first came in.

That's not how our federal government works. Or should work. You don't fire career people - then the government wouldn't function at all. In any way.

Yeah, you can. And he should have. You can fire anyone you feel will actively damage the administration.

President Not My Fault.

The lies to get a FISA warrant to spy on him was decidedly not his fault.

You are arguing with people who probably ate paste in elementary school. Probably not worth your bandwidth

Dehmlow is an agent of the state who used her position to suppress information from the public that had a potential negative impact for a particular political candidate.

I would say that that is a BFD.

The vaccines developed while the Wuhan strain was raging across the world were highly effective in stopping the transmission of the Wuhan strain.

However, COVID quickly mutated making the vaccines far less effective. It's nuanced. You can't just write "The vaccine is effective" and shut down anyone challenging that statement.
