Amen! That’s all I want for my kid. She loves volleyball, but realistically she is not be a college recruit and that is fine with me. We like going to tournaments and watching her play and put things in perspective. It’s not thenOlympics. A lot of these kids that get recruited end up in a college that was not their choice and have to sacrifice a lot at college foe the sport. That lowlife is not for everyone |
I couldn’t agree more with this - I see a lot of D1 commits from this area going to schools I’ve never heard of. Life goes on after volleyball and if my kid can’t use the sport to get into a college that’s better than she could get into with her grades….she’ll be playing club at college. |
Just because you have never heard of it doesn’t mean it’s a worthless school. That’s totally anecdotal. |
What's everybody hearing about how U12-U14 tryouts went this weekend? I've heard that Paramount and Metro both had really strong weekends, and that a good chunk of the players Metro wanted for 13s/14s committed to Paramount. I heard Paramount is also having a 12s team that had a really good turnout, as well as a 14-2 team. In terms of newer clubs, I'm hearing that VAVA had a solid showing and appears to have gained a lot of ground on VAJrs (who had a pretty bad weekend if what I'm hearing is true). EC Power apparently had a decent turnout, and VAE not so great. What is everybody else hearing? |
j If you are spending 40 k plus on club during HS to get her recruited to a college that is not her choice and not well known? What is the point? Save that money and use it on a year or two on the school she does want to go to. |
+1 |
Jnrs have had a lot of toxic coaching issues recently - a lot of people I know won’t go near them. |
+1 I have heard the same, especially about a coach named Jharred. If you see him, run away as fast and as far as you can. |
what’s folks experience with maryland exclusive volleyball club? |
What's the story with MOCO? Seems like hardly any of the posts so far have mentioned them, what's the word on them?
Also how do we find out how CHRVA teams did in the last season? I don't see any tournament results or rankings on their site - how do you know how teams REALLY performed last season? Thanks, this is still new for our family to understand! |
Moco’s a great place to start out. Good coaches, low pressure environment - perfect place to play a couple years to see if you want to try the next tier. Guide to rankings last year (but beware, the rankings don’t take into account the level the clubs are playing in, but close enough). https://www.novavolleyballalliance.org/clubguide |
Thank you for this! So if you were choosing between Metro Club & MOCO Club, and your child getting better as a player and playing on a really great team as the priorities (i.e. it's less a priority to play on the team PERCEIVED to be best if she wouldn't get great skill development and get a lot out of tournament play), which club would you choose? |
In looking at this link, I finally found this link which is if I understand it correctly the top 119 regional teams in our DMV region (bigger than just the DMV)? Do I have that right? I see some teams mentioned here above are not on this list (like Spiked City?). Is this a complete list or just the top 119? Either way, this was an illuminating list to find: https://www.advancedeventsystems.com/rankings/Female/U14 |
Should also have clarified that these are rankings from the 2021-2022 season. |
Most concise explanation of the quality of clubs I can give: Tier 1: Metro, Paramount Tier 2: VAE, VAJRS, MDJRS, Tier 3: Liberty Elite, Vienna Elite, Blue Ridge (for younger teams they are more tier 2, but their older teams aren't typically good), St. James, maybe VAVA Tier 4: Loudoun Elite, MOCO, BRYC, Libero (for younger age groups) Tier 5: everybody else |
