I am certain that this is not a topic in my kids' CCD. It is only a topic in politics.

uh, no. The Church's teaching that that human life is sacred is one of the foundational components of the Catechism and the church believes that the dignity of the human person is the foundation of a moral vision for society. This is the foundation of all the principles of Catholic social teaching. Anti-abortion is literally the (or *a*) bread and butter of Catholicism. You don't have to agree (I don't, that's why I left the church) but to suggest that "abortion is only a topic in politics" is so fundamentally untrue.

What kind of Catholic school class teaches 5-year-olds about abortion?? Those classes teach things like who Jesus is, the words to prayers, what communion means, and so on. If Catholic churches around here are teaching about politics in their first communion groups, then things sure have changed since I was kid. And for the worse.

That's absurd. The bread and butter of the Catholic church is the teachings of Jesus Christ, or did you forget about him in your obsession with abortion? Jesus didn't talk about abortion. He didn't talk about gay people. He didn't talk about any of that stuff. That's a perversion of the church that seems to have happened down here in the south. You don't find that so much in the northern states, where I grew up Catholic.
