Nats Park took bag, can we get it back?

Anonymous
The 13 year old put faith in her father that he was correct. He should replace.

I'm so sorry this happened, OP. We are partial season ticket holders for the Nats. I've seen people turned around at the gate and directed to lockers (which aren't cheap, but if you love your item, then you get to keep it in the long run). I don't know who does their bag checks for concerts. Anyway, it sucks for your DD. It will be a life lesson for dad, for sure, as well as your DD.

I agree it's a dumb policy. I don't know what it prevents -- if someone is trying to smuggle in drugs or weapons, they'll just put them on their person. And they already inspected bags.

In another irritating life moment -- my teen left one of those expensive water bottles at Disneyland one the last ride of the day, as park was closing. Rather than stay late for it to make its way to lost and found, we went back to hotel and went back the next morning to lost and found. They informed me that they NEVER keep water bottles overnight -- they are all thrown out at the end of the night. Even a washable Hydroflask -- they are just tossing those in the trash! Again, I couldn't believe they don't just put them in a lost and found bin for a few days before trashing them. Such a waste.

Do you know how much stuff gets left behind at Disney every day? They keep valuable items like wallets and phones at the lost and found, but there is not enough room to keep every lost water bottle, pair of sunglasses, etc.

OP back with an update…they had a blast and he asked her to send him a link so he can replace it.
That said, I am really frustrated to hear that these companies just throw these things away. Donate them to a local shelter or something. What a waste!

Just a heads up, there are lockers by one of the entrances to Nats Park (I forget which side) that you rent with an app and can stash oversized purses and bags. I had to use one a few weeks ago when I went to a game. It was annoying to pay $12 to rent a locker, but better than throwing away my purse or skipping the game I had already paid for.

I also know someone who got a clear plastic bag outside the park, put the contents of their bag in it, and then balled up their bag small and put it in the clear plastic bag as well. It's a dumb game.

But anyway, no, you are never seeing that again.

This is exactly why these rules are STUPID. So I can put a clutch that’s the size of a file folder INSIDE my clear tote bag. But I can’t bring just the clutch? DUMB.

Yes, it's idiotic. It really feels like the Nats/Nats Park have total contempt for their customers these days. They are working very hard to make the experience simultaneously as expensive and unpleasant as possible.

This, every word of it!

They’d be better off just putting billboards around the park saying “F### You! Keep Out!”

Yes, apparently they were told at the time. It would have meant exiting the stadium and then waiting in the hour plus line to get back in. There’s an article today about how long the lines were.

I went to the concert last minute yesterday. Friends had extra tickets. I didn't see the ticket and had NO idea about a bag policy as I am not a baseball fan. Are we now expected to read up on all stadium bag policies before going anywhere? I left my bag at home because I didn't want to get mugged walking back to my car but would have been stuck otherwise, because it would not occur to me that a concert would prohibit bags. Search them, sure, but ban them? Now I will assume that is the rule at all places and plan for that (I do own a clear stadium bag for college football). NO way would a 13 year old be expected to think of this.

Well most people just use the lockers.

Nope! OP is sitting on her quiet patio drinking wine while dad and daughter have a fun night out (baggate notwithstanding).
Cheers!

***Adding “my child never finds dcum” to my list of wants for her life!

So you’re buying her a new bag?

Where did i say i was buying the bag? I will let my husband know my stance on it tomorrow. Unless he has apologized and offered to make it right before that. Because, yes, this is on him. He advised that it was fine. She should be able to trust him. And when he makes a mistake she should trust that he’ll apologize and make it right.

Totally agree with you, OP. I hope the lost bag doesn't mar her memory of the event, which sounds like a great father/daughter outing.

Ever heard of Metro?

Another reason never to go to something like this without a car.

If everyone had your attitude, traffic would be a nightmare.

Well his money is your money and vice versa but it sounds like the bag was too expensive for a teen if everyone is this stressed out about it.

Um, yes. It takes a couple of minutes. Or be OK with having to leave your bag.

What was in the purse anyway?
