I'm so confused by this response.

Harry and David's specializes in....fruit. With add-ons of cheeses and meats.

And Jeni's is both pre-packaged and processed, by definition.

That’s because you probably don’t know much about Jenis. They use local farms, most of which are grass fed and/or organic. Obviously you have to pre-package and freeze ice cream! But the ingredients are minimally processed with no chemical extras/preservatives like the Harry and David blocks of cheese that could survive an atomic bomb.

I know lots about Jeni’s. Including the listeria problems that have happened more than once.

Zingermans or zabars

Pastries and breads sound good!

Where can I get good pastries or morning treats delivered locally?
I don’t want bagels and cream cheese or duck donuts. I’m thinking nice pasteries or danish type of things.

Flowers if you know they’re home, card, donation in their honor. Most of those gift baskets are mediocre and hit or miss quality. If you know they like cheeses, fine, if not don’t. Same for chocolate. Not everyone loves chocolate and summer is a bigger challenge.

NP. Ooh, I like this idea. Perfect for an easy affordable gift.

I would not do junk food with table sugar unless they like that. Organic fruit is always good. Not edible arrangements. Once you chop fruit bacteria can get to it. We got one and I was grateful for gesture but fruit tasted awful.

IMO I think they would probably appreciate a floral arrangement more.

Agree. I am very picky about what I eat and don't care about any of the food baskets.

We're rich and also frugal. So I would not want someone spending a lot on a gift basket. A thank you card will suffice or a plant if you insist (that way I will remember you when I look at it/water it.

I didn’t read this whole thread but my DHs mother passed away last week and we got 2 baskets from Harry and David’s and they weren’t good
One had cakes and cookies. They were hard and didn’t taste good. Then received pears, apple and cheese. Pears and apples were really small and tasteless. Very surprised and upset that people spent so much money on crap.
The best basket came from www.capalbosonline.com.

My father in law loves pate and other stuff like that. We ordered 2 gift sets from Olympia Provisions to be delivered every month for 6 months. You obviously don't need that but they do 1 time deliveries. My in-laws said it was some of the best meats, pates and pickled veggies they had ever had.. and they are VERY picky...
