We have one. It's the word you.

That’s not a formal 2nd person plural, now is it?

English doesn't have formal pronouns anymore. Some languages, like German, still have them. In German, Sie is both the singular and plural formal you. In German you know the count from the verb, but that's not the case with English.

I'm from Alabama, OP - am I allowed to say y'all?

Agree with the PP that "all y'all" takes it up to the next level.

There's also "and them". E.g., "Larla and them are going out for margaritas later but I'm not sure if I can make it."

y’all isn’t offensive.

Offensive? Oh my..

Anonymous wrote:"You guys" implies you are speaking to a male audience. Most of the time, people who use it are not. Y'all or "you all" makes the most sense.

Yinz is a stupid Pittsburgh thing. Talk about regional, OP, that's micro-regional. And STUPID because it doesn't even stand for anything. At least y'all means you all.

Wow. This is very classist. And "Yinz: is second person plural just as "y'all" is.

What is the attraction to people who either are able to speak standard English or have their own native regionalisms? I would vastly prefer "youse guys" or even "yinz" if there were some reason to choose a folksy When people adopt "y'all" on purpose, what is the image they're aspiring to?

What is “yinz”? I have never heard this.

Signed a Memphian.

All o' yall need to loosen up so. Y'all'd've hated growing up in rural Appalachia like me then.

If I encounter somebody that says this I immediately assume they’re an idiot.

I super agree with you. The use of y'all super annoys me. I've not seen it used as super extensively as you have. We should work super hard to shut this down.

"People from that region"

"What is the image they're aspiring to?"

Your unattractive biases are showing, OP. You consider everyone from the South to have an "image" to which people should not "aspire." You seem ignorant of the fact that not everyone from an entire vast region is part of a monolith, marching in lockstep to whatever it is you find distasteful.

It's so very DCUM to make these broad and ignorant pronouncements like yours. But the petty focus on a term gaining some popularity? That's all you. Couldn't find something substantial or serious to complain about, I guess. [/quote

+1. I love you.

If you're a person who hates red necks, I have secret for you. They're everywhere. I remember the first time I visited a remote area of Maine and was stunned by the uneducated bumpkins. Same with upstate NY.
