US news is nonsense. UNC went up in rankings after it got caught giving diplomas to illiterates for 2 decades. There is obvious cheating and probably bribery going on. It wouldn’t even be illegal to bribe so why wouldn’t it happen?
That’s why the world rankings are probably best. They appear dispassionate and more results oriented. |
+1. I’m a Columbia alum and I’m not happy they submitted crappy data but I do think they’re doing the right thing to take some time and figure out what certain metrics do mean and what they can reasonably report rather than sweeping it under the rug. I’m proud the Columbia professor blew the whistle. It takes some balls to bite then hand that feeds you, even if you’re tenured. |

"U.S. News said that because Columbia has been unable to provide satisfactory responses to its request, it was moving the university to being "Unranked" in National Universities. The action means Columbia no longer has a numerical rank in the 2022 National Universities, 2022 Best Value Schools, and 2022 Top Performers on Social Mobility because those rankings used data from the university’s submission."

I am sure applications will drop precipitously and prestige will plummet. Not. |
Says someone from a no name school? |
probably not for next year but if it continues |
It's an Ivy league school in NYC with great grad schools. They'll be fine |
Not what the school thinks, thats why they cheated |
Maybe not. But their reputation as an institution will |
Huh whut? Will this hurt them or won't it? My opinion remains that it will not. There are many other colleges who might be substantively damaged by this, but I do not believe Columbia is among them. I guess we will wait and see. |
No need to wait. Columbia will beg to come back in next year. |
Wouldn't "next year" involve waiting? |
Columbia is not not taking time to think about anything. Columbia refused to submit the more detailed data that USNWR wanted because it would show that the data they submitted earlier was fraudulent. As a result, USNWR kicked Columbia out of the rankings. |
Does it have to do with General Studies students or is it some other things? |
