What social welfare benefits do you think people who don't have status in the US are getting?

Not exactly a social welfare benefit, but education. There are illegal children enrolled in our public schools and the past

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is a federally-funded, state-administered program run by the USDA. SFSP reimburses program operators who serve free healthy meals and snacks to children and teens in low-income areas. In Fairfax County, any child under the age of 18 can visit one of the food distribution sites and get a free lunch. Private school kids, homeschooled kids, FCPS kids, "illegal" kids. You just show up so a child who lives in Maryland or DC could show up at one of the sites and get their free food.

FCPS has been providing free breakfast to all students for at least five years. I can't remember when it started. In our elementary school, the breakfast was delivered to the classrooms in the morning and there was enough for every student in the class. In the middle and high school, if the student wanted breakfast, they would go into the cafeteria and get it. The last couple of years, every student in the county has been able to get free lunch as well. In the past, the family had to fill out paperwork every year to qualify for free and reduced lunch prices. I believe this coming school year, they are going back to requiring paperwork.

Yes. The Supreme Court ruled in Pyler v Doe that children have a right to a free public education regardless of status. The summer meals program is free to all (the nature of the program with kids showing up often by themselves to sites would make it hard to certify or vet kids). Schools that have switched to a local area benefit do not need to individually certify for meals. Got anything else? Every eaten a free summer meal?

WHY don't we have a coherent worker visa program that would actually address this?

Not really.

Urban and suburban america is saturated with illiterate, unskilled labor as well as low quality of service and workmanship.
No thanks to more of that.

Or arrest the employers instead.

Their future employer sets up were their cousins, an sub-contractor of some manual labor place where the general contractor is bilingual, bidding cheap on contracts to private or govt little projects or accounts. Then hopes to train people quickly how to do a craft.

Ever wonder why the crew is so disconnected, even doing the wrong work project entirely, from the GC or front man?

Pay them fair legal wages and watch food prices go up even more.

Cash price or w-2 price? Big difference

The right lives to have it both ways...migrants walk over for asylum: open border! They get smuggled in: open borders!

Dear God we live in Idiocracy

Extremely doubtful they arrived across the border in the truck. Every truck is inspected. If they made it across the border in the truck, it means huge corruption within the US Border Patrol/DHS.

They likely walked across the border in the desert and then were picked up by the truck somewhere on the U.S. side of the border at a rendezvous point.

Do you know how long the southern border is? Do you think this truck just went through the checkpoints?

Whelp it was easy to catch who was driving the $500,000 big rig stuff with Central Americans. Usually they use such a big expensive semi truck…

And so much more than that in MoCo.

Undocumented children get health insurance for free. Free meals. Free dental care (sometimes in schools). Free backpacks. School field trips are paid for. Free language classes. Free laptops through the county for anyone who needs one. Free clothes.

There are numerous taxpayer funded programs in Montgomery County that provide services to undocumented immigrants and their children, and they do not need to spend a penny.

And if you dimwits think human trafficking will be stopped by a wall, you have another thing coming. You couldn't stop one guy with an AR-15 from mowing down dozens of children.

They do it because they know they’re breaking the law and rolling the dice on coming to the land of opportunity and money.

Republicans absolutely do not want this. How would people like Trump hire low-wage workers for hotels and golf courses? The whole point of the system that Republicans have set up is to create a permanent illegal underclass that they can exploit economically, while at the same time riling up their dumb-as-dirt base about how those people are taking their country away.

Pelosi and California don’t want this. Look at her record on this topic.

But maybe that’s their deference strategy—make things so awful here no one wants to come? Too bad, we will still be a stop on the way to Canada.

Glibness aside—“closing the border” tighter will do nothing to stop migration. Desperate people will find a way, and the harder you make it, the more risk they will take, and the more tragedies like this you will see.

Do Republicans have any ideas for making Latin America better for the people that live there? Doubt it.

OK. First of all.... there are so many fallacies with your post.
Biden now has the dubious honor of overseeing the most illegal encounters in history. And, he also has the dubious honor of having the most "got aways" in history. The people come in are NOT just from Latin America. They are from all over the world.... Afghanistan, China, Africa, and countless other countries. More than 100 countries, actually.

They are coming here because the word is out.... if you arrive to our southern border, you have a damn good chance of getting in and staying. Biden has made that clear with his rhetoric and his policies. And, if you don't believe me..... listen to the migrants themselves.

This is just one. There are many other similar videos out there.....

Where is our "border czar" Kamala who was supposed to be working on "root causes?" Absent. Just like Biden (who, BTW - has NEVER in his life been to the southern border). And, Mayorkas is doing nothing to secure our border.

Their strategy is to facilitate entries and "relocation" - much like a travel agency. They are doing nothing to make our border more secure. Just making it easier to process and transport migrants who enter.

"Desperate people who find a way" need to be stopped at the border, detained, and processed. Then, deported. But, that is not happening. They are being transported to places further inland because the record numbers. The border agents have been pulled to process, babysit, transport, and care for migrants instead of doing their jobs of patrolling our border. That is why we have a record number of got aways with Biden... the border is not secure and agents are not patrolling it to catch the got aways.

We have given BILLIONS of $$ to Latin American countries. It has not helped. More money is not going to do it.

Secure the border. Deport illegal entries. The message will get out that you won't get in if you come. And, allow the border agents to do their jobs.

This is so true. I work by one of the embassies in DC. Dozens and dozens of people camping out there daily. And, I live in a neighborhood in MoCo with a large number of undocumented immigrants.

They are not fleeing a dangerous environment. They come here for money. They return to their home countries occasionally (whether they come from Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador), so they are clearly comfortable and not afraid of being in their country.

They also intend to return to their homeland, once they extract as many years of cash as they can.

Yes, CASA de Maryland do a good job and got the word out decades ago. No T county MD is second to Los Angeles as most requested (and granted) destination at the southern detention centers.
The county sturdy out a couple years ago documented this all very well, and the 3.64 children per Hispanics migrant birth rate in the generous county.

Holy cross hospital also does a fantastic job at providing highly discounted healthcare to those in need who do not speak English.

The smugglers take the cell phones from the migrants so their routes cannot be traced or contact the authorities.

There's also a very good chance these people were NOT willingly in that truck. They may be part of a human trafficking ring for forced labor or prostitution (read: slavery).
Anonymous
Nope. Families illegally migrating to the U.S. They chain migrated using cash remitted from their previous relatives who illegally entered and work black market, paid the smuggler ring for their and their families’ passing and escorting. Ended up locked in a big rig 150 miles north of the border.
No one will talk. Now they stick to the script: the gangs were coming for me. I just go to my aunt’s house in silver spring Maryland. She is waiting for me.

It is what happens when we have a president who refuses to secure the border and enforce our border laws.

Few people realize that more migrants died trying to enter our country during Biden's first year than under Obama or Trump. And, his second year is likely to be even worse.

Over 650 migrants died at the U.S.-Mexico border in 2021, as of the most recent data posted in a Wednesday report by the International Organization for Migration's Missing Migrants Project.

650 Die at Border in First Year of Biden, 24 Percent More Than Peak Under Trump, Obama

This figure represents a 24 percent jump from the previous high of 524 posted in 2019, prior to the pandemic, under then-President Donald Trump. Furthermore, this number represents a steeper jump than the figures reported over the last three years of the Obama administration when a high of 412 was reported in 2016, representing a 58 percent change.

In the first year of his presidency, Joe Biden has overseen a continued surge of migration at the Southwest border that rose each month of his tenure from the end of January 2021 up until July 2021.

Sorry no. This happens when people lose faith in their countries and want to flee to one that appears to be working. But I realize you’re here to parrot Fox and conservative hate towards immigrants. This scenario happens all the time but the news selectively reports on it. If you lived along the border you would know this.

Their blood of the dead is on the hands of failed American foreign policy makers. They've exported instability to the region for decades. They run out of office the honest, intelligent leaders, and install trainwrecks for their own ends. Anyone remember Noriega?

Preventable tragedy. Blame Biden, his idiot VP and that useless slug Mayorkas.

Yea has ebbed and flowed into these chaotic gang-led “countries” on and off for decades. Nothing works. Sending more usa taxpayer money does little, it gets siphoned off for gangs or corrupt officials. Ignoring them all leads to more gang power. Half their GDP is already for remittances from economic migrants in America. They like that too.
Left to their own devices they devolve into a Haiti or a Africa situation or just keep going socialist/ tanking & defaulting/ getting bailed Out by Dec banks or usaid. Their education system is k-6, not enforced. The other half their gdp is drug money.
