Are the college mailings targeted?

My kid got mailings from UCLA, Harvard, Chicago, UofMich, and so much more, many I had not heard of. Granted, DC is in a magnet with a high SAT Score.

It is a numbers game. They are definitely trying to drive up app numbers for their rankings.


As has been pointed out, acceptance rate is not part of USN rankings calculations, so no they are not.


Your comment isn’t logical. You say admittance rate isn’t factored into rankings, so that somehow means the school doesn’t care about admittance rate? Yes, they care. Harvard would never want to be at a 50% admittance rate. The high payers would be horrified!

Chicago, likewise, would never allow an admittance rate of 50% or higher. It’s a game. They play it.
