| It’s meaningless and I do think it’s meant to drive up apps. DD with a 1300 SAT got tons of mail from Univ of Chicago a few years ago. There was zero chance she would be admitted. |
My son got an 1120 and has gotten tons of emails from U of Chicago. Lol! He is getting emails and brochures from business programs since he must have checked that box. He is also Hispanic and he's gotten some emails about summer programs for URM. One was from Bucknell and the program cost thousands of dollars. Um, nope. |
You knew there was zero chance. How did they? |
What is a “shit school”? |
Not true. My kid received both just this week - likely bc of SAT score, high school or zip code. Colleges do send targeted mail but important to note they mail to WAY more kids they they have slots, yet also don’t always buy complete lists - so on the other end, kid could never get mail and also be accepted later. Bottom line, only use for mail is learning about a school. Don’t read anything into the fact it is addressed to a specific kid.

There are thousands of colleges in the US. I'll let you decide for your kid or yourself. |
| The range is so wide, it's completely useless. The number of apps helps the schools playing US News ranking game. |
No admission rate counts 0% for USN&WR ranking. |
Gosh I hope your kid goes to one of those shit schools. LOL. |
Plenty of other rankings do include admission rate. |
Yeah? Rankings people care about? |
|
My daughter got a 1300 on SAT and ONLY got mail from fourth tier colleges, like never even heard of colleges. This had me quite worried, why no mail from top 100 schools??
Ended up being accepted at several schools ranked 50-100, which was her target. The mail (or email) you do or do not get is not relevant one bit. |
Strange to think Harvard and UCLA have the need to improve their yield?! |
people care about all rankings |
DD with 1550+ also get tons of mailings from never ever heard of colleges.. |
