New ACHS Security Measures

I think there are definitely gangs but I think there are a lot of kids who like to think they are going to be in a gang or pretend they are for photos. Unfortunately, like all teens, I am sure the kid was involved in things his parents didn't know about but it could be just about anything - secret gf, going to secret parties. I honestly wonder if this kid was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

So he mistakenly strolled into a 30 to 50 person organized fight and he's the one person, essentially an innocent bystander, who got stabbed?

Please seek help for your denial. Watch one of the several videos of the incident. He was participating in the fight, and then when he got stabbed he kept trying to fought. The police officers were trying to force him to lay down so they could attend to his injury but he kept swinging.

Yes, and there are tips to the police that this was definitely gang-related - the security response, also, indicates this is gang related. It is the continued unwillingness of this community to acknowledge the gang activity that led to this incident. People love to blame COVID mental health issues instead of addressing the truth, because, let's face it, no one wants to pay over a million dollars for a house where MS-13 runs the only high school. If the schools, police, and City would just be open and transparent this may have been preventable. But, even after the shooting at Bradlee in the fall, the massive convergence of loitering kids onto Bradlee continued - - - and property values continued to rise.

Alexandrians find the idea of a second high school to be racist so would rather have a prison high school than build another

The concern is that two high schools with the student populations determined using on geographic boundaries, like the school system's current two largest middle schools are, will result in one school that is predominately middle class and white, and a second school that is poor and people of color. This doesn't seem to worry you, PP, but I find it concerning.

Not the PP but this segregated structure apparently already exists at ACHS. I routinely hear from white UMC parents that their kids are in a separate part of the building and therefore never see (or rarely see) the violence. I find this concerning and problematic.

And there are solutions - creative districting, busing come to mind. The current system of one high school isn't working but you can't just say solutions will be racist and throw up your hands. Especially when the current system is segregated and racist too.

What are your solutions?

The answer has been presented ... and denied by the fools on the City Council and our idiot mayor. It was the choice not chosen. The best plan was the vocational and junior college-type campus using the TC and Chinquapin properties, and turning the Minnie Howard property into a first class state-of-the-art sports complex that would not only be a gold star in Alexandria's hat but also produce revenue. Mind you, this was a plan that was master-minded by a long-time member of the Alexandria community and had the full support of the Alexandria black and immigrant communities. No wonder it didn't get a second look.
